Probably the right holley for a mild 253,but a purist like myself would go a rochester but i,m not sure one can fit a red 4.2 inlet manifold.

Then he could use a rochy but i think it would have to be a one off a blue 4.2 so the needle and jets are the right spec, but buying a second hand one runs the risk of it needing a rebuild but a well set up rochy would give good performance with reasonable economy.

Yep there a hell of a lot better then a Holley. And alot easyer to set then a Holley.
I would get a performance manifold as well. Elderbrock performer ect.
EDIT: Elderbrock Torquer would be the go.

Is the intake manifold on a 253 a 2 barrel? The 350 holley is a 2 barrel, so I don't know how you'd go about putting a Rochester on (Assuming its the same carby off the blue motors)

There is 2 manifols for the 253/308.
1. is a 2bbl
2. and 4bbl
The Holley 350 is a 2bbl, rochester is a 4bbl. To build a performance motor dice the 2bbl. I wouldnt be using the STD manifols anyway, hence Elderbrock. These motor need to breath, so a performance manifold is a start.
