The GQ Patrol had the RB30 motor. It seems that they were generally reknowned as being a pretty ordinary combination and therefore werent all that popular. This means they are rather hard to find, and expensive when you do. Theres was one at a 4x4 wreckers down at Wyee when I was there last, but that was over a year ago. They also had the RD28. My gut feeling is that this "stronger RB30 block from the 4x4" is a myth, because I can't see any reason why Nissan would bother. Carpoint quote: Quote: The three-litre RB30 was almost identical to that used in the then-current Commodore, but without injection. Carburettored, it produced 100kW at 4800rpm, with maximum torque of 224Nm at 3000rpm.

Exactly, why would nissan bother, they were flinging Holden a turbocharged rb30, why would they turn it into a beast before they sent it.. And why would they follow it up if they couldn't release it there. Sure theres other cars around over in Jap that have probably had it changed or some heavy work done, you know what they are like. Off topic: I'd love to see what 10 or so japanese workshops could do with a rb30et.. Give them one each and say, make some power.. Anyway, heres a link http://www.rbforums.com/specsEnginesRbOthers.php the RB28T only made 85kw, bloody turbo diesel crap. I can't see that block being any heavy dutier with those stock specs. As for how can you get more information about these engines. Nissan RB28: NQ Patrol and C32 Laurel Nissan RB28T: NQ Patrol and Safari They are the cars they are in. Maybe invest in a workshop manual.

Yes but keep in mind the CR Ratio of the RD28 is 21:1 as opposed to around 9.6:1 for the RB30E and it is also sleeved so hence its strength and it also runs the RB26 sized head studs unline the RB30 which doesnt.

the vl commodore came out with the strengthened block thats what the cage in the bottem is. the skyline's didn't have this cage and they were known to twist. The nissan patrol has a carby version of the skyline block in it so it would not be any stronger than a standard vl block your best bet would be find a vlt motor and build that up. the skylines and patrols were actually de tuned for the fact that they didn't have the cage in the bottem end and thats why they were slugs. the rd 28 motor has a smaller bore and stroke than a 3.0litre motor but the rb25-26 pistons will fit a rb30 block the rb 25 head will bolt to the rb30 block. hope this helps

I think the 'cage' is what they call the 'crank girdle' or something. Are you sure the R31 skylines with the RB30 didn't have this? I would be very surprised if they didn't.

On second thoughts, the idea of the skyline RB30 not having this 'cage' is stupid. What would be holding the main bearings and the crank? Nothing? mmmm.....

aparently i was reading a Mag which i think featured a R32 GTR which had an RB30DET it was actully built by OS Giken the whole engine so what you were saying about jap building the RB30 isnt rare i have also seen another couple of these Rb30's which are built by jap companys. thing that was weird was its called a OS Giken RB30DET not Nissan RB30DET which to me seems wrong and also could just be a stroker kit onto a RB26DETT stupid if it is.

OS Giken make a stroker kit for the RB26 to turn it into an RB30. They retail for about 30k AUD and its a full comprehensive bottom end kit. I highly doubt they would get an aussi RB30 block imported and work on that when they build an RB26 Stroker kit. Theres a lot of myth and not enough facts due to people assuming things are stronger, better or bigger when they are exactly the same. Your best bet is to talk to a real workshop that has had vast experience with the rb30 engine, such as Bresciani and Rajab - both of which are running 9 second passes and have over 400rwkw packages. 1400HP on pump fuel is a big ask from any motor and espeically one thats 20 years old such as the RB30. What is your real goal to get out of the engine/package. i know you want 1400HP but whats your realistic goals? 1400hp should cost you about 80k-100k with all the R & D, blow up parts along the way and other developments.
