the record is 10.8 and yes it was in a mx7 and guys theres nothing stopping you from running 10s in a mx7 ive worked around alot of manual boxes specially r33 boxes and r32 and mx7s and no s h i t but the mx7 is stronger then the r33 box and r32 the only problem is age, but the r33 box does wear out quick and will crunch gears that is because the bearings are smaller therefore it shifts abit quicker then the mx7 but it wears out quicker.

The guy that ran a 10 in a manual used to hang around glengala rd in sunny. Wicked car...
I was there the night he ran it. Pretty awesome sight.

From what ive tried, im sure a 10 is possible easy with a MX7, i flog mine hard and had to pull it apart quite a few times now, but it only breaks because of the way i shifted it!

It'd take a fair bit to get some good launches going, I had a vid of an R31 manual doing some ridiculously quick time, was airshifted though.

There very strong, i dump mine at rev limiter, 1st gear, 21 psi, 9.5" slicks.
Not a problem at all!

I still want an r33 box... I'll get there one day, that is if my car doesn't sell.
I'd love to have a quick vlt manual.. But I'd be happy with boost for now.

10's are no problem with the standard vlt box. i had the standard box. standard diff. was able to run 11.3 @121. missing 3rd gear. during the pass, if all had went to plan should have scored a 10. but wasnt to be.

Jet -6 and EVLCOP are right. The MX7 is as strong as the R33 box its just that the MX7 has a tendancy to lock out at high revs. These are strong boxes when treated right.
My aim is to run a 10 in my fully loaded Calais with an MX7 so lets see how it goes. Car has the power just finishing of a few other things.

Yeah I really struggle getting third. But then again I haven't driven a 5 spd VL in a long time. That and the also the shifter I am using is owned by a queer.

evlcop what setup is your car running, there some good times with a manual would of been even better if you had a perfect run.

i ran 11's with 5sp and std diff even 3.45s in it still until the selector forks broke. ( I was a bit rough on the change) I have heard that MX7's have alloy forks and skylines have steel ones. I used to lauch using autonic antilag with 1.60 60fts on 8.5 " slicks. When we pulled the gearbox down to fix the forks the gears were fine.
