Yeah Anyhow* thanks for your tips, yeah I might just chuck in a VL one when one pops up. Mate last year was lucky to pick up the whole assembly with LSD for $150.

Hey again, Once again i find myself asking stupid questions, but from what i have gathered i can still use my old Drum axels and diff center but i have to change the oil seals on the drum axels to Disc seals. Then what i can just take off the Drum setup and put on the Rotors and Calipers ??? And Carefully adjust the old brake lines into the new calipers. Any help is greatly appreciated Wolfy.

as for the axles, yes, thats all you do. but the brake lines may not reach the caliper. i just used the lines off the disk set up so i dunno if itll work with the drum lines

ive just done a rear disc conversion on my vl yesterday.i swapped the diffs over.it wasnt as easy as i thought it would be.and the handbrake setup is different.u dont need a 1" m/c.15/16 will do as long as its disc front and rear.also i put in a v8 booster.now the only problem is the diff itself leaks from the diff housing and has a noisy bearing(not to mentio the problems i had with the brake line compatibility...) .so if i had to do it again i would use my old diff and setup the discs on there.

Really? thats what I might have to do then. Instead of changing the whole diff over. Keep talking about the problems you had?? Send me a pm if you want.

vlrb30: i think you just got a dodgy rear disk diff... i have disk on my exec and wheni changed from drums to disk by changing the whole diff over and hand brake cable i had no problems at all... and what was the point in changing the booster and not the master??? the only difference between a V8/VLT and Non Turbo booster is that the V8/VLT one is a double diafram..... Chris: if you want to do it just get the whole diff and handbrake cable... and swap it over.... changing the booster etc wont change a thing at all.... ohh and it didnt cost me a cent to convert it either.....

i did get a dodgy diff.thats exactly the point.wen u buy diffs used u never ever know wat can b wrong with them until u actually drive the car.thats why id choose to keep mine instead.i did change the m/c as well.the 4 wheel disc master is different to the drum master.theres an extra valve.the other problem is where the brake lines screw in. the center nut.the disk setup has a bigger unit.i was unlucky enough to buy a diff where the brake hose was cut off so i had to buy another one.

Quote: i did change the m/c as well.the 4 wheel disc master is different to the drum master ok tell me how is the 15/16 master different from a non turbo SL,Exec,Berlina that has drum rear brakes and the calais which has the 25 spline 2 pinion diff?? so in other words PBR made 3 types of masters for the VL's then?? so they made the 1 inch master which is found on the V8 and Turbo models and they made a 15/16 for the models i said above with drum rear brakes and they made one for the non turbo calais with disk brakes?? sorry to say but they didnt..... all 15/16's are the same and all 1 inch are the same also.... i still run a 15/16 and my brakes are fine the diff i got was fine too.. i know what car it come out of i drove the car myself so i knew how the diff was...

I was just reading through this post and was wondering if anyone has combined the VL drum diff with the VN disc, calipers & backing plate and actually pulled it off. I got a spare VN diff lying around that could be put to good use.

the VN diff itself is wider then the ones in the VL... the rotors, calipers etc are all the same for rear disk brakes... the rotors are 016's... the fronts are 017's for VLT/V8 VN V6 with FE2 and VN V8 etc... 015's are the fronts for non turbo VL's and also VN V6 without FE2.. if you want to know more info goto the dba site.. So if you bolt the VN backing plate, calipers, etc to the VL drum diff housing, everything will be alright appart from the handbrake cable being different, is that right?

the diff that is in the VK would be a 10 bolt... you can put it in your VL but you need to mod something for you to be able to use it, i cannot remember from a bar of soap what you have to do maybe tail shaft and yoke or something like that.... N/A VL: thats pretty much about right mate.... everything should be the same... you can also get the VN diff shortened to fit the VL i think the difference is 3mm or something it is... and then you have yourself a 28 spline 4 pinion diff...

What Im thinking of doin is putting the 28 spline mini spool into the standard single spinna center (I want to use this center cos it has 3.98:1 ratio) with 28 spline axels and putting the discs off the VN diff onto the VL one. This all sound feasable doesn't it? All I need to buy is the 28 spline mini spool, I already got all the other stuff lying around. I'll go from a sh1tty single spinna, 25 spline, drum diff to a fully locked, 28 spline, disc diff, all for the price of a mini spool. Sounds alright to me.

Well this all sounds good and i cant wait to hear what happens if any one gets theres to work so N/A VL you'll have to let us know if everything or anything goes right for ya Wolfy

God damn, so that means I can use the stuff of the VN diff which is at my mates workshop rotting away? So this means that I can use 1. Rotors 2. Calipers 3. Backing plate from a VN diff and rip off the drums of my diff and just the VN stuff on it? If this is the case then what about the brake lines? and is it possible to use the disc seals from the VN diff or should I buy a brand new pair?

Ripped the VN diff apart and trying to see what can be done with the damn hand brake, mate reckons tho that instead of making the cable go up to the hand brake latch (vl disc) just make it point down and somehow re-adjust the cable so it works ok. Hopefully we will do conversion on Wed.

Well on Friday we have completed the drum to disc conversion using VN parts, everything worked out ok but the hand brake cable obviously doesn't fit properly, I had to get a VL disc brake seal kit which set me back $100, everything else bolted up fine, maybe if I adjust the hand brake cable a bit more using the tensioner then it might work, otherwise I need to get a VL disc brake cable. By the way with the brake lines I used the current ones which were on there, just had to carefully bend them to fit, had a proper drive today and pedal is alot stiffer now, no more spongey bs and obviously brakes alot better. Dunno what the deal is with the 15/16" and 1", I have 15/16" at the moment and they are fine.
