if the guy could drive i reckon the swift would beat ya, but if he can't you'll kill him.... while the vl has more torque, the swift has great power to weight. but then again you've also got exhaust, extractors etc which would bend in your favour......
I have a VL 87 Berlina Auto:
Mods: 2-2.5 zorst system, Hi-Clone, Extractors, 16" low profile tyres, can't think of what else. Anyway, could i beat a stock VN Calais Auto? I think not quite... Whats everyone else think?
depends how mechanically shagged both cars are :P
vn will be quicker off the mark but once the vl picks up the revs should bring it closer if not pass it (according to the old man who owned a few of each) but yeah, im sure someone here could give a more accurate answer

nah i don't think you would, but it would probably be close
I have a mate with a VN calais with 140 000 on the clock and my VL kicks it everytime...even off the mark mate...
Dont forget that VLs are generally the faster of the old commodores solely because of the RB30... low 15s standard for the turbos and i think 16's for the na standard sends a message of quite a quick little package at anylevel.
My dad has a brand new S and ihave driven both and on a certain undislosed location i got a better topspeed than the S on a road that is like 300M long i got 125 and the s got 105 mate you should slaughter V6 VN's and V8's shouldnt destroy you in normal conditions, sometiems all that power is a bad thing. Whellspin and uncontrolable...balance is the way to speed..saying that though off course power and balance wins and also driver skill...
Anyway try mate u will do fine unless you completely **** up.

yeah but the vn v8's cut a low 15 and the vn v6 cut a mid 15 time as well. but as you said, wheel spin can kill it, and we're talking 150,000km's ago. Not exactly fresh
so yeah, the driver has a lot to do with it
yeah you will beat him now worries.. dude i got 20 degrees advanced and running on optimax.. got catback exhaust 2.5inch and custom cold intake (trust me.. it works sick).. and my car ****s all over my mates swift and my bros pulsar.. they are just a little quicker off the line
my gf has come up against 2 or 3 n/a vl's in her gti and has beaten them all pretty comprehensively. i think most of you guys calling them "****ty ricers" and such would be pretty surprised at how gutsy and fun and they are to drive. they are nothing special over the quarter because they have no top end but to 100 or so they are pretty impressive.
i have a friend who gave me the same sort of **** about his gti being able to thrash my n/a vl, so i said to him, the only way your ever gona shut up is if i hand your ass to you down a qtr mile.
So we went out worked out a quarter mile and draged, i dumped mine, wheels span and he jumed ahead, but before half way i was truely winning, and beat him by about two car lengths.
His was stock, mine has, extractors, 2 1/2 exhuast, turbo head, turbo injectors and fuel pump, pod filter cold air induction, and advanced timing 18 degrees.
I said i will vs his mates gti tubro, when, i manage to finish my sc-14 duel cam block conversion.
