There is no need to worry about the struts pushing the bonnet if they are correctly installed. Mine were factory fitted in 1988 and 16 years later the bonnet still sits right. Another access bonus of having the gas struts is that the front of the bonnet sits 60mm higher when open.

Just finished fitting mine, they look sweet, went to a wrecker and un-bolted the brackets of a VS and they gave them to me for nothing. Went home and they fitted straight on, and when the bonnet is down there is no upward loading on the strut so i cant make the bonnet sit wrong it only pushes back toward the windscreen but the hinge deals with that.
Ive got some close up picks if people want to see, cant work out how to post them here, if anybody could let me know how to do it, ill put them up.
Ben.
I just like the swoosh sound it makes when you open the bonnet.

Here is a shot of the bracket, still need to paint it, and get rid of the masking tape that is under it. You need to take out the washer bottle to do up the bolt on the under side of the guard on that side.
Hope it helps anybody.

can you just use 2 other ball bolts on the guard instead of the bracket?

U DON"T NEED VS ONES, everything u need is on the wagon, undo both the ball screws, that the struts connect to on the wagon, the ball bolt is the same thread as the bonnet so it bolts straight up,
then count 3 bolts back from you front guard, remove it, and also remove the metal bit that that bolt screws into, and then find a nut that fits the ball bolt, do it up and done, u shouldn't have to adjust anything, that's all i did and to 5 mins a side!

yeap, open the wagon up and take verything of, cost me $15 from the wreckers for everything, don't pay any more than $25, plus also make sure it holds the boot up, cause if it doesn't they will be a waste of time as u will have to get the regassed!
So that's the 2 Struts
4 x Ball bolts,
u will need to find 2 nuts to fit 2 of the ball bolts, done!
