Advantages : Predictability
Definite 2 wheel action
Much better traction (than open wheeler diff)
Cheaper than rebuilding your lsd, or buying one to replace single wheeler.
Disadvantages: More strain on pretty much everything in your driveline...
Illegality
Annoying chirp chirp
Harsh low speed cornering
Dash Rattling
Increased rear tyre wear
They're pretty much the main ones...

Sorry just a little question..
Are spools have to installed by a professional using the right tools?
Or can you just do a backyard job of it?
I know with 9inches you can!

Badvlsl: Having a spool in your diff on the street is illegal. No matter how it was installed or who installed it.
You will also find the 99% of diff/driveline specialists wont install a spool into your car for you. You will have to get your mechanic to take your diff out. Then take it down to the diff/driveline specialist to get the spool installed. Then take your diff back to the mechanics and have it re-fitted.. This is just to cover their asses. And with good reason... If they were to install it into your car for you, and a week later you got a huge fine for having it in there and said the the cop "I had it installed at *diff place name goes here* last week, they told me it was legal." Then they have big trouble on their hands....

Ok lets get this straight, yes it might not be totally legal, but whos to know what diff is in a car without actaully pulling it apart, guys ive seen a few LSD that act like lockers around corners!!!
And as for doing it yourself, well you see those pics! There in my backyard, doing it myself!!!!!!

whats the go with installing a mini-spool into an LSD centre? I have the stock vlt lsd.
Would I be better off to get a VL open wheel centre and install a spool into that?

Just let it be with the VLT LSD!
You dont install spools in LSD centre

Pull harder DasBlitz.. Brute force is usually the only way...
Make sure the axle retainers are undone.. wack a spare rim on and yank them out.. its not easy, especially if they have never been removed before..
