(tight fit with wide wheels) he i know theyre not! axles are all same length. the only difference in any vl axle is the seals between disk and drum

I beg to differ about the two axles being the same length, thier not. The left and right axles are noticably different by lenght and this is out of a factory vl calias turbo diff, with id tags to prove it. I know this as i pulled it apart less than half an hour ago. Both axles were measured from the front edge where the wheel bolts on(round disc part) and the axles are standing verticle when i measured them. left is 791mm right is 698mm Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Have you got a set of sedan axles to measure as i have done to prove the wagon and sedan axles with discs are the same?

ok.everything swaps without modification EXCEPT wagon housing to sedan housing(different shock mounts) drum axles to disk axles(different oil seals) the seals can be changed

Quote: axles are interchangable from sedan to wagon/vice versa That is totally incorrect, i will walk down the street butt naked if VL Wagon axles the same length as sedan axles. I have measured both sedan and wagon axles and they ARE different, if you have wagon axles in a sedan your either lying or you have two sedan diffs. I bought a set of vlt axles out of a wagon and the diff man could not fit them into a sedan housing, i then bought a set of sedan axles and put them alongside the wagon ones and they were about an inch longer for both axles. Also they all use the same sealing method but the drum discs use a thinner axle seal because the backing plates are thinner and dont have the seal sticking out as far as the disc backing plates, hence the thicker seal. (If you put a drum seal in a disc setup it will have end play, about 3mm +- You are correct in saying that drum & disc axles are the same, though disc axles use longer studs why do you keep insisting that they are the same when so many different people keep saying otherwise?

ok here is the conversion that i did.and it works or i will eat my hat.i even raced at wsid with this diff in my car to the tune of 13.3. if it was gonna break id say it would have done then i had a wagon that i wrecked.pulled the diff out myself.it had shock mounts (stubs) welded to the rear of the housing(as wagon diffs do).it did not have sedan shock mounting points or any evidenceof them being removed. it was also a drum rear end. i removed the axles only and fitted them to my sedan diff with the disk brakes that were already on the sedan diff.they fit no worries except for excessive axle play. so i pulled them out and looked at the sedan axles and the wagon axles side by side. the only difference i could see was the thickness of the oil seals. so i took my wagon(drum) axles and had disk oil seals fitted. i fitted them straight up,no end play.no problems. ever all i am saying is that i have personally fitted wagon axles into a sedan housing. no mix ups,no confusion as to the origins of the axles. car crazy. i know you dont believe me.i have nothing to gain from saying this. honestly why else would i say it if i hadnt done it?
