it all comes down to what tickles your pickle personally i would kill for a v8 wagon, but i might just look at a turbo 6 setup, we'll see if i went v8 i would give it injected heads and run a walky type intake manifold and a big bore exhaust- now thatwould be meean! the v8 would me more reliable than the turbo 6 and woulb sound better in the exhaust note too- but in tuirn the 6 may be a quicker package all together???

Haha yeah, LOL Either way your gonna be up for a lot of money, Large horsepower say 500+ requires forced induction on a V8 (for street use). and for an RB30 probably $20k-$25k on the engine to do properly. Not many people really push the boundaries of the old 5 litre, which I would say is the way to go. A hypo RB30 streeter may run into reliability probs compared to the equivalent 5ltr V8 running similar power. Just personal view!!

I have two friends who own vl calais turbos and I own a vl calais v8, believe me the turbo's are much more refined and user friendly package, IE, cold starts, overdrive gearbox, choice of a manual. I would say neither is more reliable than the other, the v8 is old technology but on the flipside there is less to go wrong, the turbo is newer technology but this means there are more things that can go wrong. The V8 is much much cheaper to maintain, fix, and work on as any one can work on the old 308's as they have been around for ages. For instance to get a dyno tune for my car cost me $100 dollars and the guys I go to do a fantastic job, you can not get anywhere near this to dyno tune a turbo motor. The reason I own a V8 comes down to personal preference I prefer the power delivery and the rumble of the V8. As for speed I get beaten by some turbos and I beat some turbos it comes down to mods and condition of car. Both being stock the turbo will be quicker. VL V8's are very heavy on fuel I have a couple mods, carby, cam, exhaust, stally and get about 400kms to a tank, I have never put more that 72 litres in. Although depending on how you drive the turbos can suck the fuel too. Calais turbo's rock but I love my V8's, V8's have the exhaust note, Turbos have the inductions noises, comes down to what you prefer in an overall package
