i don't mean open up in the literal sense. i meant the cam performs a better at higher boost, as apposed to lower boost and not just because youre pumping a huge amount of boost through it...? thats what I got told anyhow, you boys tell me, I only run 9psi :-)

Any turbo can only push so much air through a certain sized hole. With the standard cam, that hole is fixed. Once you try to push more air through, you start to hit stall speeds of the air etc. At the end of the day, the camshaft defines how much air flows into the chambers and how it does it. Porting helps obviously, but thats all in aid of the camshaft. I use a 'fatter' profile cause the vls can take it, and try to make the boost come on as early as possible without losing top end. More power on less boost - can't argue with that.

Bill is right.......!!!!! Your standard n/a head and cam runs out of breath at the top end because atmospheric pressure only is trying to push air into the motor. As soon as you come on boost the turbo can push a whole lot more air through those same sized inlet ports, that is what a turbo does. So even with a stock cam a turbo is going to give you a whole lot more top end power than it ever had without the turbo. So yeah, fit a turbo and it sure does open up the top end a whole lot. The stock cam will work just fine as well.
