atmo = non turbo champ short for atmospheric pressure ... ie no added pressure or boost ....
anyway I don't feel so bad now ... hopefully by the end of the year i can go for a 20 grand loan to get my engine and driveline done ... still leaves paint and other fancy bits to do but anyway seeing what a lot of people have spent cash on makes me feel better that I'm not alone with spending some huge amount of money on an old car I just can;t part with

Thats the second ridiculous comment you have made on this forum in the last 2 mins.
Most of us are here to add value to this place.
well my parents bought the car new back in 86.
Since i was 14 i have spent:
$2500 on suspension
$400 on 16' wheels
$1000 on VXSS wheels (this year)
steering wheel $300
exhaust $250
Extractors $300
Vx brakes $200 (installation only already had brakes off dads car)
Total ammount i have spent is $4950. I'm 17 now haven't got a job do odd jobs around the house (mowing lawn, washing cars, etc) that i get paid for. Been saving and spending money on the car since i was 14. PArents never lent or gave me any money to spend on the car so i have been saving for years and not going out and wasting money on useless ****. Wish i did have a job so my vl would be turbochargged but its pretty hard to work during HSC so i'll worry more about the car after 7 months when the hsc is all over.
when i bought my old VLT it came with receipts for a lot of work done.. paint/moulds/seals etc, $43,000 in receipts.....3 rebuilds nad 10g's later, i converted it to a injected 5.0 brakes failed and kissed a pole.....sold the car unregistered to get a email 3 months later from the new owner explaining that the car has been on the stat-writeoff register in NSW since year 2000 and he cant re-register it..
explains all the receipts for paint etc and now i feel like the bad ****!!!
but who would spend so much bringin a VL back to life? ((

The best thing to do is sit down and write what you want from your car and save up and do it properly, the real cost comes in doing things more than once, and breaking things.
I will stop when it reaches $50,000 maybe....LOL.
purchase price- $7000
radio- $300
alarm- $700
springs- $100

But these figures are silly because I would have had to spend a lot of that whether it be a vlt or a corolla or whatever.
in short I have spent bugger all. Try owning a landcruiser ad see how much you spend!

Hey Mate,
either way u look at it bro, whether we're "big names" or not...you're gonna spend a f*ckload of $$$ on ur car if you want it to be different to the stock ones out there.
I've just turned 20, and I've had my car for just over 2 years, and its been in the workshop for about 22 months!!! And im a P-Plater...you reckon im not frustrated!?!!!
Costs:
Car $9000
Body Kit $3000 (full walkinshaw)
Custom Spray and fitting of kit $6000 (done by the guys that do john faulkiner racing) i decided to splash out on the kit and spray...didn't want it to been done by someone who didn't have a clue...
Wheels $1000 (VY SS 18's)
Interior $4000
Gauges $800
Stereo $4000 (Pioneer)
Working the engine a little more $2000
Plus a few other things...petrol, insurance, detailing etc etc
It all adds up dude, no matter what you you do with it!
Mine is $30,000+...and i've still got a sh*tload of stuff to do to it!!!!
Its expensive, but its SO satisfying!
Good luck with your machine dude
Hopefully mine will be back on the road soon so i can finally drive the fecker!
