Nice coastvl, two questions, wheres the hole in the bumper? And whats that dyno in KW?

Around 90kw. And it doesn't cut through the front bar, if you look closely in the pic it sits behind the opening where there are slight vents.. You'll see when you look at your own. However it doesn't even have to go to the front bar..

Yeah what he said, it's 92kw I think. Thats what I calculated it to be. That was with a dodgy converter and no extractors. Both of which are now fixed but I've spun a bearing so I'm building a tougher motor.

I thought the VL had a stock 114kw? Its on a few sites i've seen.

They are 114kw at the motor. You can account for 30% loss through the drivetrain. The turbo is 147kw at the motor.

hi guys, well i must say that it is a very good article, well done coastvl, i have a stock VL and want it to perform a little bit better, i am seriously considering doing this to my car, only thing that puzzles me is that would it really give it much more power cause its not like the air coming thru the snorkel will be that much hotter than the air you are getting from the outside. I will probably still do it even if it only gives me a tiny bit more performence....i have to get my car roadworthied soon so should i do it after then?? Also i was wondering in the main bit it said.. i needed 2 * angle pieces and 2 * 45 degree bends....where do they angle pieces go, aint they the same things?? also whats the 100mm * 40mm metal plate for?

The 100 x 40 plate is for blocking off the original snorkel. Apparently if you leave it on , the vacuum gets all stuffed up and the whole project is worthless. The 45deg bends are for the bends under the gaurd. You have to soften the bends, a 90Deg bend is too sharp. The angle pieces attach to the piping inside the airbox. Hang on a minute, I'll fix it!

is there anything illegal about cutting a whole in the body, there is already a smaller hole with a plug, but unsure about cuting a permanent hole in he body

This mod works quite well if you have a group A front bar too, just flange the piping over the inlet on the back.

Ran my auto 86 vl berlina with no other mods besides the cold air intake and pulled a 16.82. Got pacemakers sitting in the cupboard going on soon as can offerd the rest of the exhaust package, will post the results should be all done and tuned by next cpl of weeks. Getting a Genie mandrel bent 2 1/4 inch system into a hiflow cat into a single muffler.

Here is my CAI a bit dirty but can see where the curves are i used zip ties to hold it against the steel thing that holds the front bar on, i put a pieace of mesh on the front of the pipe then slid the bell mouth over that so i dont get much crap in the air box. Second pic shows how the bell mouth sits on the inside of guard and its hard to see. QUIKVL Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

nice work quickvl....very well done... i like the wire mesh at the front there, can you buy bits that come with that on? and have you noticed much imporvement in the car in any way since doing it?

Yeah it runs heaps cooler and runs really nice on highways because it pushin the air up there fast. I am not sure if u can buy it like that but i just got a small but of fly screen mesh and used it for inside the box and on the end. Thanx for complement about only good thing on my car. Nah i had a talk to him today, his idea was basically the same but without the piping and cutting a bigger whole in the bottom...this way posted here would be better cause you wouldn't get **** flying up from the tyres and what not, and this one would push air up into the box so yeh this is better, sorry for getting you guys excited

Wouldn't it be better to use that flexible black cable piping that the council workers use? If ur worried about sharp bends in the pipe and stuff?
