I forgot to mention that RB25DET had stock internals.. For how long should be interesting. AFR's are in the mid to high 11's. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Simple really, when you think about it: RB20=2 litres RB30=3 litres Off boost, you're bound to have 30% less torque - maybe more given that the stock CAMS are designed to make the car sing above 3500 revs. So, as has been said before me, the 3.45 diff gears will make the thing a slouch off-boost. Ignoring cost, why would anyone deliberately downsize in the cubes department?

Another old saying.. There's no replacement for displacement. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

just asking how many of u guys have done this, and you are missing the big picture $$$$$$$$$$$ i have done it and it's fine, pisses over a standard engine and will do the job untill u get the founds to upgrade, front mount and wind the boost up and u will keep with most standard auto vl turbo's and even 5 speed if the guy does ice coffee gear changes and every other na 6's there isn't any work with installing it, it's a peace of piss, grab the engine mounts of your na and put them on the rb20, gear box all bolt's up, even the reverse light switch is the same, only prob is wiring the engine into the holden wiring loom, can get this from import shops for a fee, $120 advise to do this as it saves money and a **** load of time want any more info pm me The rev's are alot higher, and if u save for a 4:11 diff u will get the acceleration there, Like i said before, 180kw at the wheels for an everyday is fine, considering all you need is a front mount and 300zx or rb25 turbo, and front mount and wind the boost up to 15 2 18

Yeah, compared to an atmo, it'll have more peak power. ...but so will a boosted 660cc niki engine.

like is said, cheapest option and better bang for buck. i personally found the rb20 better that had 60000 km's to 170000km rb30et that 2000 and needs a rebuilt, not saying it's better engine or anything like that but for a stepping stone till u get more funds 2 get your rbet bombed etc, u can always sell them for what u paid, so u save up the difference get a buyer, that see's the motor running, sell it, then buy the engine u want. I brought vl walky kitted berlina with no engine or gear box, wanted and rb30et but couldn't find one, for the money i had, and went with the rb20, it's done good and taken a appsloute flogging, now i ready to upgrade, mate is buying it for what i paid and have the founds to get a rb30et Just u guys take the piss out of them, saying they don't move etc, and always have to drive them onboost for what they are they go good, u can sell your na vl engine and gear box and bolt these up with a couple hundred dollars difference and have instant power increase. just think u guys should give the a little more credit that's all.

Yeah - if you can't afford an RB30ET - and you can't afford to turbo an aspirated RB30 - then maybe, if you're really desperate, go the RB20. They are cheap for a reason. As for bagging the RB20? The thread is called: "To RB20 or not ?" - and clearly ther advice is to "not" - but if dollars are a big issue, then I guess what other choice do you have?

Dollars are/have been a bit of an issue. But I still think the RB30 is the beta option. The RB20 'has its place', but for the money I would have spent in this instance anyway, I prefere to work on my RB30. I roughly wanted to spend about 1K all up on getting my atmo on the road. For that amount I have been able to work the head (full reco + port-polish etc), custom cam, and preperations laid for a Turbo conversion. To be honest i prefered this route, and I want to work on a BIG RB30ET in the future. So it helps to have worked on this engine and also learnt alot on the way. For anyone considering this RB20 -FROM- RB30, you should way up what you really want in the end and go for it. Dont piss fart about and half way through think 'Why the **** did I do that'. - Becuase that would be a waste of time. And money.

Are you serious? it sounds like an RB20det is worse than an RB30et, i thought 2 identical cars, one with an RB30et and one with an rb20det, the rb20 one would be worth more??

I wouldn't even dream of going from a rb25 to a rb20 or even worse from a rb30 to a rb20.. The rb20's really do suck arse. Stick with the 3ltr much better base. How many rb20's do you see over 240rwkw... hardly any.. But the question is would you be happy with power and full boost from around 5500rpm+ to make that sort of power?!?!?! How many do u see at 300rwkw.. Well I haven't seen one. Full boost by 6500rpm lol... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
