Thanks biatches, I reckon someone needs to type up a good article on how to convert your n/a to a s/c rb30. I'm going to do it when I get some money from selling my old gearbox.

yes that would definately be a good idea. i am very interested in doing this modification

There isnt really much to it... I mean its not like converting a turbo where all the parts fit and u just got to bolt it up like reading intructions.... you have to weld up your own brackets.. and bolt it to the block.

That does sound pretty good! I might do that aswell my brother has a cam and chip in his motor with extractors i reckon a blower would give it a really big increase!

Well whats involved in setting it up. Getting the blower for one. Then is it pretty much attaching it to the block, getting a belt around the pulley, making up some custom pipework. Relocating the t/b. What are the finer points?

finer points: 1) making sure the belt is STRAIGHT (otherwise it will shred in like 2 seconds) 2) Relocating throttle body in front of blower 3) getting the AFM in there somewhere 4) mounts are annoying to do i would think. also you need a way of tensioning the belt 5) driving the thing in the wet

that's the easy part! a pair of wires, on a switch in the cabin. piece of piss for that really. hard part is mounts i would think!

thats what I like to hear, my old boy was a bit of a welder back in his day, I'll just hit him up to help me mount it.

Well stocky summed it up.. I have a switch to turn mine on and off. The way we have set the belt drive up is off the crank with a VR p/s pulley welded to an attachment which bolts to the crank. The way you tension the belt in my set up is by actully rotating the blower.. the mounts that it is on allow movement.. so u attach the belt.. and screw this screw in which rotates the blower, tightening the belt. Driving in the wet with it on is stupid :P i mean, ur wheels spin the second u give it even a little bit of throttle. If anyone is seriously SERIOUSLY interested.. we can probably make up some sort of kit. Ie all the mounts and such and the pulley drive and everything.. and you could just mount it up your selves.. but Id have to talk to my dad about it, as we dont have alot of time on our hands these days.

Well I was going to probably get the blower sometime around new years and work on it from there on.

what kind of power are you pulling with this set up at the moment? and u said its on stock vl turbo boost at the moment, any way to increase this with that charger?

its on about 5-6 psi yes u can increase it, with a bigger drive pulley.. at the moment im using a VR power steering pulley to drive the blower.... if I put something bigger, itll spin the blower faster = more boost. stromy was saying that out of the 5-6 psi im running, not all of it makes it to the motor.. coz u loose about 2 psi of boost thru all these valves and pipes. im sill looking into it.

yeh if I did sell a kit, itd be for a car with no Power steering or aircon.. coz we would make them up exactly the way i have mine setup. I see what u mean about the air con drive good idea, too late now but Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah one of the guys on this forum suggested it, thanks to whoever that was! if it works, it's going to make the install a whole lot easier! also, this is the way the CRS guys do it (adapting a Vee-belt clutch to the blower) and evidently they boost about 10psi with it! then again if your head is flowing well (extractors, exhaust etc) then the apparent boost is less.

10 psi... doesnt seem exactly right to me, i mean the VR p/s pulley is bigger then the one that drives the aircon, I think... dont seem right

yeah true i was wondering about that, but remember the new blower clutch might be (and probably is) smaller in size than yours, thus more boost. also their reading was taken on an otherwise stock RB30 (no extractors or exhaust) which can drastically increase apparent boost as you probably know all too well!

yeh.. I see. I want to push the blower to its limits and get as much boost as possible. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

haha that's the spirit! remember if it fries itself it's only $300 for a new one! i've heard stories about the insides of the blower having severe issues (mating surfaces delaminating and coming apart) above 5500 rpm in the original engines they were designed for, and considering that they ran at 1.25x crank speed that's 6875rpm for the blower. now if you can calculate your drive rate then you might be able to increase it such that you're getting HEAPS of boost (like, 12 psi or something) but won't be able to take the engine high up into the rev range. remember that you're already pushing that little huffer a fair way past where it was designed for! having said that, i say you push it to hell and back, and find the limits of the SC14 out of interest. if it does shred, at least you can back off a touch from that point and get another one!
