19-12-03, 12:29 GMT+10#23 sry dude havent check this thread out since i last posted umm the M5 is the 1 that goes to liverpool not to homebush thats the M4 ur thinkin of. umm na they were removed straight away cause i travel on that road about 6-8 times a day each way up ad down i usualy do the bexley rd to river rd exit but yer they were removed. from wat i recall one was a white exec/berlina Vl that looked like it had been taken for a joy ride as it was sitting in the bushes and the other was a dark blue over silver calais that had been stripped down pretty bad. the reason i no this was a calais is that the whole nose cone pop up lights had been removed and the rear end was missing aswell althought it still had the door molds on it

19-12-03, 20:51 GMT+10#24 Guys, what exactly is rebirthing? I mean I know thats how these pricks steal a car, and give it a new plate, etc, and sell it, but how exactly do they get away with this stuff? They have to have a known good chassis and engine number that isnt hot dont they? whats envolved in the process?

21-12-03, 17:16 GMT+10#25 I think u need to use all the plates off a car that has been written off.

29-12-03, 15:53 GMT+10#28 Rebirthing: Substituting what are usually legitimate Vin/Chassis and engine numbers onto a stolen car to give it a new identity.
Rather than not mention it on here everyone should be made aware of it so that they may be more educated and cautious when buying a car

totally agree
thats true guys you should be aware of it so if u see a car that looks abit dodgy u can report it.. make sure compliance numbers match chassis ( left tower next to fuse box) some people actually cut out the chassis number out of the tower and weld it on the stolen car sand it back apply some bog and paint it.. hard to detect if done correctly.. the biggest one of all i think that most wannabe sik ****s **** up on is the engine numbers should be located on the left hand side of the block.. alot of people dont even bother with those.. if u see anything dodgy guys report it to the police they are wiping out original vlct and hdt's not enough around..
also guys make sure the option codes and model codes that are listed on the website eg AVL etc make sure numbers and letters resemble the car so if it is a calais it should not have exec number on it .. thats a dead give away..
look for any creasing on compliance plates could mean they might of been taken off another car and been ruffed up.. check also the pop rivets also if they are differant or have not been placed back on the original part of the cp is another thing to look for.. and doesnt hurt to give revs a call

30-12-03, 13:52 GMT+10#31 guys this might be useful info that we should put on the website.. we are all passionate about VL's it shouldnt bother any of us apart from maybe the ones that actually do this **** who knows we might prevent a car from being stolen or sold etc what do the moderators reckon?? I dont mind writing it up..

I took my plates out to respray the engine bay, put them back in and it looks excatly like it was originally.. still doesn't hurt to check and ask..

30-12-03, 18:01 GMT+10#33 i think my car may have being rebirthed at one stage cos it has the original owner manual thing and the chassis number in there doesnt match the one on the car but the engine number is.
but i got a REVS certificate for it so im safe

31-12-03, 09:23 GMT+10#34 it mite not be a rebirth it could mean that ur car was in a accident and they replaced the whole strut tower were the chassis number is stamped in! the panel beater could have gotten a strut from a wrecked vl and welded it in there for ur chassis number is different

31-12-03, 15:59 GMT+10#35 Lots of the owners manuals have the wrong nos written in them, shoddy dealers.
