Yep - loads more torque. I'm sure everyone has experienced the old n/a 6 start to struggle when you get 4-5 people in the car, bit more torque would probably be better for those situations hehe. Isn't the V8 only a 3speed anyway? I think a manual 6 might be able to get a jump on one personally. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

actually platinum, you might be right there, i only have an auto, but the manual does go harder, and yes the V8 only had the 3 speed truamatic, i stand corrected maybe a 5 speed 6 could jump a V8, as for the sluggishness of the 6 with 4-5 people, i hate that.

Obviously it was standard but so is my N/A 6.Mind you it was a rolling start from about 40 k's.

Dude I am still asking myself that now... He picked the 253 up 'cheap' and always wanted a v8...so so sad it was puss...the 2ltr Vl would have given it a run for its money!

I have the 5 speed and she is built at HDT to be able to rev to 6 grand. She's dam quick, just haven't found a turbo at lights yet to see how i'd go. Being original I don't think i'd beat a worked turbo but should clean up a standard one. She cleans up stock VT/X/Y's and they have 147kw, 3kw's less than a stock turbo i believe but an extra 200kg. All power figures were stuffed back then. VK GpA's apparently produced 196kw but apparently they were tested with out exhaust or and ancilleries. spel?

My walky creamed the turbo I used to have! Both cars had a number of engine mods. So I say, it's easier and cheaper to get power out of a V8

The only VL V8 I've ever been in was RooF's old Silver VL and that thing was just bloody scary, quick as all buggery. Of course, that thing wasn't exactly standard, it woulda been running 12s by the time it was written off. Jeez it was fun tho, fastest car I've ever been in. And the noise, the twin pipes were cut off just before the diff to fit the drop tank, it was like a mobile earthquake machine... *reminisces* And yeah, that thing went pretty hard without having a squillion dollars thrown at it. Well, it had some but it wasn't exactly a million dollar machine or anything.

Well I've owned a stock n/a VL 3L & a stock VL V8 & the v8 would piss all over an n/a 3L all day but get flogged by turbos all day. With my VL V8 - cammed/zorsted and a 5-speed I'd just beat stock/zorsted turbo manuals but as soon as more boost or diff gears or other mods came into it the V8 get flogged still. With my new V8 (series 1 VT GTS 5.7L EFI V8) a manual in the VL i'm killing stock/zorsted/boosted turbos and am on par with the ones running hi-flow turbos and bigger injectors and the like. Thats with the motor stock just extractors, exhaust, K&N filter & 3.7's. Can't wait for the vortec to go on!!
