OKAY- Absolutley simple. GET A METAL 15CM rulder. NOTE: Security bolt is dead centre of top of head unit.. Also bolt is a very weak metal. Stick the ruler into the cantre console and poke iit far enough until it hits the bolt. Get a hammer but make sure you dont hit it too hard.. just dab it a bit til you weaken the bolt. Its really simple and if you keep persisting on it you will get it out.. none of this 2 day job **** pulling the dash out!! NO WAY Need anymore info about this 15min job.. that is pics or anything.. used to fit car radios, the trik with vls is to drop the bottom half of the dash so that you can view the braket that holds the back of the stereo on, get a sharp chisel and hammer and wack the corners of the clips were it wrapes around at the front, that should then cut the clips in half and the deck should then drop, one done pull the whole bottom half of the dash out so can remove the deck and then file the surround out properly so the deck sits flush in the hole. Its worth doing properly.

Paid to have mine done... I couldnt stand sitting in the car for more then 3hrs with my dad tryin to figgure out how to get it out. Only cost me $66. Also breaking the ******* thing isnt a great idea. I wrote off my car the other day and when i asked my insurnace company if i could take out my cdplayer they told me i would have to put the factory one back in... **** that.

87vl you are incorrect saying there is no way you can get the deck out without taking the dash off, cos I have done it.

with the bolt at the back version which is what i had in my calais: to save all the aggravation i would almost say take to a "pro" and let them handle it....but if you want to know its done properly without damage to other parts of the car, do it yourself, and just hacksaw the bolt at the back. takes about 2 mates doing shifts, but after a 6-pack it will be out, just take it easy and dont get frustrated... or wait till its out then smash the f&*)in thing on the ground! omg after posting here i went and had a look at the beast h/u and all i had to do was remove the dials and un bolt it from the metal face plate and the b***h just fell out!!! well im pretty stoked right now but im still gonna do a custom install where the mapholder is.(u no tht thing under the ashtray?) ill try post pics wen im done. i guess the installation depends on car model AND radio model as mine had no bracket watsoever!

yeah ... well thats because a lot of mechanics used to do a lot of work to do with air con and like the heating coil so while they were at it! they just simply got the bolt out of it!

Yeah I got that far, got the new HU wired up, and now I can't fit the ******* in! How did everyone make theirs stay in the hole? The bracket I got with the HU doesnt fit, and the HU is a snug fit in the hole lengthways, but vertically it's too small........any ideas anybody? Need this in ASAP so I can put my car back together!! Cheers, David

Here is the bracket i found in my VL commodore executive. Here is the extent i had to go to to finnaly get the sucker out. Here is what holds the bugger in on the back...just one screw There is no easy way to do this lady and gent...you have to pull the dash apart to the extent i have so u can access the back of the bracket, i then got a flathead screwdriver and belted the little **** till she broke off...hopes this helps some people out Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
