just wondering if any1 has conflicting info... like if the engine no. has the "A" in it ..signifying its turbo... yet the chassis/vin number has the "6" in it... does this mean that the turbo engine has been put in and the plates changed or is it possible it could be stock ??? any info?

Hey boys, Most of the fellas have got it completely spot on. If shes got an 8 in 5th character it means shes a factory turbo ortherwise a 6 = NA engine. See Example below extracted from the VLT bible: E.G of a ID TAG on your VL Engine : LW5 Trans: MS1 (Auto)/MX7 Diff: GM3 If the three things above are on your ID tag then its a Factory turbo. Holdens motor Company 8L198FJ600025L Starting from 8 = Division L = Degree of luxury 19 = Body Style Code 8 = 3.0ET if 6 = 3.0E F = Model Year Code J6 = Assembly plant code , J1 -J9 - Melbourne -Dandenong plant , L1 -L9 Adelaide plant 00025 = Serial Sequence Number : L = Series Code = 'VL' Ohhh boys the A means Adelaide plant. A Factory turbo will have and 8 on the engine block Last character !!! E.g Engine Number: 6000737A8 B4 I go : All this information was extracted from my General motors VL series (volume 6.) Service manual from GMH Service Department. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
