maybe they're not 8000rpm screamers with a huge power band, but really they don't need to be.
They are family cars, work hacks, whereby most driving will be down in th rev range, where I imagine is where the torque of these engines lay.
Sure I bet some of the Ford engineers wanted a revvie engine with a truck load of power all the way through, as we would all like to see, but we are, like it or not, a minority of the new car buyers market, therefore our opinions don't count...much.
Which, in conclusion, is why the Ford engines aren't revvie, but hellishly torquey and fast, especially in the case of the XR6T as we have seen.

i agree , my one goes really well, its rev limit is about 5,600 ish but it makes its max power at 5,250 rpm, cant wait till it runs out of warranty i want to boost it

Speaking to a couple of Ford dealer mechanics at a party last night, and questioned them about the new BA Turbo.
Both were very impressed with the performance that the turbo has but reckon if you were to buy one for a fun car buy the ute with a manual attached to it as the sideways action is there for your amusement. And they said the sedan with the auto is a bit of a struggler not willing to kick out when boost comes on.
And they said it has heaps of top end which I guess is normal for a turbocharged car.
I asked have they had any warranty comebacks with the turbos and one mechanic said something about a o-ring in a water pump that went on one car, other than that they have'nt had anymore come back.
hey id like to add my friends XR6T ute manual has 7000km's on her and is in the shop getting its 4th gearbox fitted, has been there since August 29th.
yes he is PIST
the car is standard and he doesnt drive like its stolen

I thought there would be some quality control problems seeing that Ford cannot produce enough Turbo's to meet demand that's why people are settling for the N/A XR6 and there are heaps on the roads. Mainly being bought up as company cars.
Still if you were planning on buying a turbo falcon I'd be waiting for the series 2 as most bugs should be ironed out and the car should be more refined.
yair, I read a few tales about gearbox and diff problems with these cars when abused, but nothing as major as 4 gearboxes. Some people just cop dud builds.
I'd wait for the S2 as well. My old man has an N/A manual BA ute, no probs, cept the shifter is pretty clunky I reckon, I've seen toploaders smoother than that thing. It has done SFA clicks tho, hasn't even been in for it's first service yet. Have to see what happens.
I was just reading the lateset zoom mag, in particular about thier project XR6 turbo ute.
I must say they are taking thier sweet ass time about it but what they are doing is encountering, then rectifying every possible hurdle.
Having said that, they are starting to see the limits of the standard gearbox "third is getting abit noisy" is a quote which comes to mind, whereas the supercharged V8 gearbox they tested has no such issues as yet.
Could this be a simple fix? Adapt the V8 gearbox to the Turbo 6?
my mate with the XR6T also drove my old 180sx.. he couldnt believe how quick it would come on boost and how quick it felt compared to the ute.
good old power to weight ay :P
yeh I was reading that zoom in the newsagent and they said something like "ford has put their most torquey engine with their weakest gearbox"...stupidity, just when I was giving them some respect
