By which time the secrets of the over-protective engine management system should be well and truly known as well! If you can get 500 kw out of a road-registered RB30ET, goodness knows what these things will be capable of.

the only decent thing holden ever did was put a nissan rb series turbo motor in the vl turbo, not to mention the sexy calais eyelids, everything before and after then has been utter garbage-
now thats biased

Imagine that monster pulling up beside your VLT.
Be scared at it will waste you unless you VLT does 9-11secs 1/4 hehehee
that figure of 350 is rwkw right? if so, that's not a bad effort. i guess Ford have come out firing with the XR6T.
i've never bothered to look anything up on these things so i have a couple of questions. what do these things weigh? and what price are they retailing at?
i assume they're fairly heavy so i wonder what kind of time it'd pull with 350rwkw?
oh, and what's the HP rating on those GT35/40's? anyone know?

You can make it fit, but really a V8 is more suited to these little Fords.
I'm not a biased car lover it's the one eyed ****heads that only stick with one make. - Holden don't make the best cars in the world, Although the HSV shirt wearing bogans that drive VB commodores tend to think so.
I agree with Petros, Holden did the right thing by fitting the Nissan engine into the VL's, the technology back then was well ahead of it's time.
Its a shame they had to drop the nissan engine and shove a buick engine in the VN and go backwards! Imagine a RB40DET or RB35DET, would kill the V8. Commodores these days are just imported yank tanks. The VT I drove didn't feel half as good as the VL so yeah I am very bias but yeah those flashy HSV's don't do it for me anymore. Even the magna felt better then the commodore, at high rpm they sound sweet. I could go on about different cars since I have no main preference, just a large variety.

Dunno about a capri, as they were never fitted with a straight six. Could probably do it but it would be a major job.
OTOH it would be a lot easier to start with a six-cylinder Cortina. Now THAT would make a sleeper

I keep thinking what they could have done with the Nissan Infiniti V8... !sigh!

Magnas are IMHO very underrated cars and a bargain second-hand. Pity Mitsubishi doesn't know how to keep an auto in one piece; stick to the manuals

Well the magna I am refering to might not be your average magna as it had been spiffed up a little. Yes it was manual to, the mechanic driving it was using it since its a demo model at DVG Mitsabishi. He had to pick me up so I could pick my mums lancer up. Annoying though as I asked him about the twin cam head conversion and he told me not to bother unless I have about ten grand, told me to stick with a v8 instead, GRRR. Didn't budge me though...
I guess he didn't realise what I my true goals were. Further more I never intended to have a 10 second runner, just a quick day to day car that doesn't drink like a V8. Less then 250kW will do me fine, but I still want at least 170kW with or without forced induction. The best, from what I have read on the forums, 265hp without forced induction. If I could achieve that, that would be awsome although I have a feeling I will still want either turbo or supercharger.
Yeah, I've heard worked magnas spit out CVs and the auto gearboxes out like toothpicks.
I dunno, one would probably fit in a capri with some persuasion, but I think you'd end up cutting into the firewall. A V8 is just a better idea because you can set it back a bit more, being shorted, better weight distribution.
You see that Capri in Australian Muscle Car, Red RB30 Jet? Old Sports Sedan, massively flared arches, etc etc, awesome. They just whacked a 9 inch in and flared the guards till it fit Can scan pics if ya like.
One of the most beasty lookin cars I've ever seen.

Bollocks!!! Even the pioneering effort on a Skyline featured in Zoom several years ago only cost $4k, and that included apparently for the first time connecting the RB25DET EMS to the VL loom.

I've heard of early auto Magnas (no mods) on their *fourth* gearbox!

I would prefer the Buick engine over the Nissan personally as parts are a hell of a lot cheaper for them and these days (VTII onwards) the motors are just as refined as the RB30 anyway.
They had to shove a Buick engine in the VN because the Nissan motor was too expensive and the American quality control isn't up to Australian standards, but if anyone has been in a VX Commodore they will notice they they go a hell of a lot better than an RB30E and would outrun or at least be equal to an RB30ET as they have the same redline and the V6 doesn't have to rely on a hairdryer to propel it.
Ford have hit a nerve with consumers noticing that many drivers are going out and buying all these imported Skylines so they have had a go at building their own twin cam and turbo motors to lure these people in while HSV have a 250KW supercharged V6 which would most likely waste one of these new XR6T's,it seemingly is ignored because it isn't an in line six,it hasn't got a DOHC alloy head and a turbo slapped on the side of it.
As for talking about bogans who wear HSV shirts and drive VB Commodores, that's another stereotype because I have been in a VN V6 which was HSV enhanced and it would outrun a VLT,it has a top speed of like 250 KPH whereas a standard VLT in manual form can just manage 220 KPH,how I know this about the VN is because I asked the owner what the top speed was,he said he has had it off the clock and the the clock in a VN goes up to 220 KPH.
I remebered he got up to about 180 KPH in it but we ran out of room to drive it,but it got there bloody quick.
I know I have built a twin cam Nissan RB30DE but I wouldn't hesitate on building a good Holden V6 either if going for something next time round,or going for something which is cheaper and just as potent like a Toyota 1JZGTE but never a Mitsubishi as their lubrication system is of a poor design in their engines leading to oil burning after short kms (100,000-200,000 kms),I know that for a fact after us owning one.
I mainly go for an engine if it is good, perhaps a Cosworth motor but never anything which still shares the same block as to the EA Falcons which were pretty ordinary.
