InsaneVL - Just commenting on the Interior lights that can only be on while driving being Dash Lights, what do you reckon they'd say with a Reading Light for a map in the passenger seat etc? Curious, because theres some dodgy laws around.

I had those washer jet LED things on mine .. blue originally .. got pulled over by cops, they spent 10 mins going thru theyr book in the car, and eventually found no laws saying they coudlnt do it (apparantly it violates ADRs tho), so they booked me for a towball blocking the number plate .. Iv since changed them to green, and driven past, behind, and next to cops many times and never had a second look .. i think its just the colours theyr worried about .. emergency colours (and red on the front isnt the cleverest idea anyway, as you woudlnt wanna be mistaken for a rear end of a car..)

just been lookint up the actual laws that govern what lights you can have. seems i've mis-read some of it. in the Transport Operations (Road Use Management - Vechicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999, here are a few of the laws governing the colour of particular lights. take note of the few end ones (in bold ) In particular, here are a *few* of the regulations pulled out of it to cover what needs to be covered for what colour may be where. Quote: SCHEDULE 1 Part 7 - LIGHTS AND REFLECTORS 63 - Performance of headlights (1) When on, a headlight, or additional headlight, fitted to a motor vehicle must - . (a) show only white light . (b) project its main beam of light ahead of the vehicle. 66 - Parking lights (6) When on, a parking light must - . (a) show white or yellow light visible 200 m from the front of the motor vehicle; and . (b) not use over 7 W. 71 - Performance of tail lights (1) When on, a tail light of a vehicle must - . (a) show a red light visible 200m from the rear of the vehicle; and . (b) not use over 7 W. (2) A tail light fitted to a street rod vehicle may incorporate a blue lens not over 20mm in diameter. 73 - Number plate lights (3) When on at night, the number plate light must illuminate a number plate on the rear of a vehicle with white light, so the characters on the number plate can be read at least 20 m from the rear of the vehicle. (4) A number plate light - . (a) may be combined with other light; and . (b) must not project white light to the rear of the vehicle other than by reflection; and 84 - Reversing lights (3) When on, a reversing light must show a white or yellow light to the rear or to the side and rear of the vehicle. (6) A yellow reversing light may also operate as a direction indicator light. 88 - Operation and visibility of direction indicator lights (3) The flashes of light displayed by a direction indicator light must be - . (a) if the light faces forwards - white or yellow; and . (b) if the light faces backwards - . . (i) yellow; or . . (ii) if a vehicle was built before July 1973 - yellow and red; and . (c) if the light faces out from the side of the vehicle - . . (i) white or yellow towards the front and side; and . . (ii) if a vehicle was built before July 1973 - yellow and red towards the rear and side; and . . (iii) if a vehicle was built after July 1973 - yellow towards the rear and side. 91 - Interior lights A Vehicle may be fitted with interior lights that illuminate any interior part of the vehicle. 104 - Other lights and reflectors (1) Despite any requirement of a third edition ADR - . (a) an exempt vehicle may be fitted with any light or reflector; and . (b) any special use vechicle may be fitted with 1 or more flashing yellow lights; and . (c) a sugar cane trailer or a vehicle towing it may be fitted with 1 or more flashing yellow or green lights. (2) A vehicle other than a Police vehicle, must not be fitted with a blue light except with the written permission of the commissioner. (3) A vehicle may be fitted with any light or reflector not mentioned in these standards. (4) A vehicle, other than an exempt vehicle, special use vehicle or sugar cane trailer or a vehicle towing it, must not be fitted with a light that flashes. (5) A vehicle, other than an exempt vehicle, must not be fitted with a light or reflector that - . (a) shows a red light to the front; or . (b) shows a white light to the rear; or . (c) is shaped or located in a way that reduces the effectiveness of a light or reflector that is required to be fitted to a vehicle under these standards. in essance, you can have any light on your car, as long as the headlights, park lights, tail lights, indicators, etc, are the correct colour - and as long as the lights are not blue. so green lights on the windscreen wipers are fine (in qld), but blue are not. http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/T/TrantOpRUVSSR99_02D_030701.pdf some stuff in there about safety regulations ect for vehicles which is legislation - ie, law, and can be quoted. not much on modifications as such - for which you really need a copy of the third edition ADR's.

I know by law (my uncle is a cop) in N.S.W you aren't allowed to have any lamp on the front of your car which isn't amber or white as that's how people are booked for say having green lamps underneath the front of their car. My brother wanted to fit some under his VN and asked is it is illegal to fit your amber or white lamps under the car,he couldn't answer that one so there may be a loophole there so if a police officer tried to fine you for having these lamps under your car and they are those colours I'd say you could fight it in court. It's just like the RB30 engine I have built,if someone tried to tell me it was illegal I would just say it is an RB30E according to the engine number, but I don't think that is illegal as the Carpoint insurance is for people who those sorts of conversions,I mean, companies like the NRMA,how can they say an RB20DET powered VL is heavily modified rendering it uninsurable if you want comprehensive cover whereas if you fitted an EFI 5 litre engine it probably wouldn't be as it has a "non turbo" Holden motor in it and both put out around the same amount of power.

Lot less hassle just having standard amber or white lights. Is it really worth it going to court to get the o.k. to have different coloured lenses? NRMA would probably consider an RB20 like putting a Datsun 1200 motor in. It is still considerably different to standard. Doesn't have to be a bigger engine just different and they aren't interested in whether engine mounts maybe the same either.

Just keep the parkers original, Sure put better headlight globes in, remember to keep it standard wattage otherwise the cops can do you for that too Ive got 90/100 White lamps in the hi/low and 55w in the high beam, works great. The parkers are a globe I got for $7 and they are a light shade of blue (Narva Opti blue) and hardly you notice them but abit different from stock. They also carry the ADR and are for road use so the cops cant to you for it. Its like the Opti blue headlights. They cant touch you for that as its a standard replacement globe. Thats why you hardly see the higher powered 100/130w opti blue style lights unless its a cheap import brand. RB26DETT i agree too, Is it the movie 2F2F or similar that gets everyone putting lights under the car, in the grill, fancy winscreen washer jet lights etc etc etc. Holden produced a damn fine looking piece of machinery and im sure the General would have a fit if he seen ppl doing "Four cylinder" garbage to his design At least there are great body kits for the VL unlike the bulky crap that is seen around these days. Im wondering if it gives you a bigger star rating (NFS2 Underground game) Leave it for the ricers I think . . . But then again, each to their own. Im just having my say in it "DAMN IT!! The cord on the iron isnt long enough for me to iron my shirt on the rear wing of my ricer" ROTFLMAO Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I used to have green LED''s in my old car, looked wicked but the cops got up me when the car was parked in a car park. New car has white led''s in it looks sweet but still has a slight blue tinge, havent had any dramas yet, looks better than the piss yellow bulbs. It just depends if the cop is an arshole or not, u can usually get away with it if its not highway patroll.
