yeah he was referring to strength etc.
little hint , u will be a little bit faster in driving if u use a 32 or an n/a 5spd in comparison to a mx7 , simply coz of the ratios , dont flog it hard and they will last too.
pete - so u opted for the 33 box hey? where from?
how long before ur back in business , should i expect to see u down aspley on a thursday night from now on.
I was wondering how anyone could destroy 3 MX-7 gearboxes and not realise thier mistake with the first 2.
You are truely an individual freak.
"Jeez, broke another one, these things are crap"
Wasn't it JETWPN that ran numerous 11 sec passes on a standard MX-7 box?
Could be wrong
THREE! what were you thinking man!!
cheerz
morepsi
Judging by the fact he's lost his license for 2 years, I can understand why he went through three.
Some people take these penalties as some kind of badge of honour, I think. I know I didnt.

Pull your head out of your ass. I was referring to the gearbox strength.

Andy - Yeah the 33 box got the go ahead. Gilmour Developments is doing the conversion for me. Car should be finished right now actually. Im going to call them. Yeah I'll come down to Aspley Macca's work permitting (shift work is a bitch). Next Thursday night I will come out and play. See you there.
the r32 gts-t box the same strength as a n/a 5spd?
I'm pretty sure they're not - they seem to hold the 160kw of the rb20det okay, and more!
I've seen the n/a 5spd's blow themselves apart just by dumping the clutch.
NFI if thats just 'cause of the different gear ratios and diff ratio like someone has already mentioned, just my own experience talking

Gerbs, yeah the VL N/A 5spd boxes arent real tuff the last N/A car I had I went through around 5 boxes, back then I was doin a fair bit of street dragin, but that was a few yeas ago now, if you want a box to last, get decent heavy duty bearing etc put into it! as for a N/A setup for a box id drop a RB20DET box in 1 around same price from a wreckor and much tuffer...
Supra TT boxes are the go if you want to get some strength into your drivetrain.
Damn expensive, but youll fry a clutch to bits before you break the box.
komodowagon, sounds like you dont know how to drive your car with the respect it deserves. You broke the 3 boxes out of harsh driving. PSI03L was running at least 300kw at the wheels on a MX7 box. Though Nothing is bullet proof.
taking corners at 90 in second gear isnt really that wise, and your in the incorrect range to take advantage of the power band the turbo provides. Your exit speed would be slower than someone who setup the the corner properly in 3rd and used the clutch in the right way to come on full boost in an instant. Flat changing from 2nd to 3rd is damn hard across the H and you will generally grind the **** out of your synchros quick smart.
Redlining your car to 6 grand and flat changing will not give you anymore speed or advantage, infact it will make you go slower as your straying off the peek power which would be around 4500rpm or so, depending on your mods.
Man, that guy needs to learn how to look after a gearbox.
What a waste of a couple of good gear boxes. I blew one once, it was cause I had a big exaust off the back of the turbo, without any heat shielding and the car used to get a hiding at times but the gearbox was always looked after when driven. The only reason it blew (on the freeway doing 240 dragging a VP HSV8 for 10 min flat) due to too much stress under load and the gear oil was too old (hadn't been changed for a year) and the box cooked itself.
Yeah I under stand that 90kph is to high in the rev range for producing power out of a corner, But it does induce engine braking for a tight right hander that can only be taken at 45 (i dont dare go faster than that even in dads BMW 328i or mums MG Z-TT) the first gear box blew up because the oil was old and the car had been sitting for a while and not driven hard etc by the previous owner and it was the only the second time it had be driven hard since i owned it (i was on Ls and mum was in the car so i wasnt driving that hard) the second the guy who rebuilt the box the first time took the blame for that he stuffed something up when he rebuilt it (some kind of toggle thing ??? i dunno im too scared to open a gear box to have a look how they work) but this one i will admit probly was my fault. I was driving like a man possesed because my sister told me to pick her up asap (and if you guys ever get a call like that from ur sister u know something is really wrong) so yep i'll take that as my fault altho its not totally blown this time its just the synchros in 4th arent falling into place and its leaking oil (gasket maybe??) so my mechanic reacons that i should be running auto transmission fluid in it and and replacing the gasket and i shouldnt have any problems so hey all could be well BTW i lost my licence for 2 year doing 103 in an 80 zone but officer radar eyes belives i was doing 130 - 140 cause her radar wouldnt lock on (hmm i wonder why using a radar in the raind looking through a closed window REFRACTION OF LIGHT LOVE simple physicsmeh its gotta go to court im happy to lose my licence for 3 months tho cause hey i was in the wrong for 23 over

If you're REALLY braking hard (eg on a race circuit) forget about engine braking; it's stuff-all in comparison to the anchors and just takes time and attention and wears out the 'box and clutch.
I drove my old Alfa 33TI quite a bit at Wakefield Park circuit in supersprints. First I used to change from 3rd down to 2nd for most corners. Eventually found my best times were keeping it in 3rd the whole way around except for the hairpin into the main straight. Less time lost in changing gear, less wear on the car, more consistency and better able to concentrate on steering and brakes. And that was with a very peaky engine that had a power band only from 4,000 to 6400 rpm!
