not long ago 3 people out my way (country NSW) were killed in a VB because of cut springs. One of the rears fell out while doing a sharp high speed corner, sending them into o whole heap of big trees.

Got a question for all you "suspention pros", why is it bad to cut your springs? if you only cut a smsll amount so as they cant fall out! As mentioned by TwinVS Quote: Originally Posted by TwinVS Chopped springs may not work on jap cars. But on commodores rears no problems. As long as the shocks used keep the spring from falling out when its jacked up. Cutting off 1 or 2 coils is fine. Use proper lowered springs for the front. I cant see it being a problem?

it might not be a problem from a performance point of view (if done properly), however it could create big problems with regards to insurance claims. Im sure Insurance companies look for any reason not to pay up and this could be a very good one. Also the risk of having the police use that as a contributing factor in an accident is enough for me. I personally just cant see the point in taking a risk for the sake of a few hundred dollars on a proper set of springs.

i agree with you on this as people say there is no such thing as cheep performance, i have seen vls with chopped springs and they tend to bounce all over the road, not trying to cause and augment with anyone but you should not give advice telling some one to cut there springs as its not the responsible thing to do tell them the pros and cons and let them make up there own mind remember its there life i know im sounding preachy but people on this forum listen to peoples advice and i my self have got a lot of good advise of hear so remember watch what you say b.t.w i been gone for a while but now im back oh and here is my 2 cents on the legality for chopped springs. if a cop is going to nail me for a yellow neon on my parcel shelf something that's not going to hurt anyone im sure that they would love to give out some hefty fines for dangerous springs Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Don't think this has been mentioned.... If you cut the springs the compression rate goes all out of wack
