23-05-03, 15:56 GMT+10#21 Go the Autronic for sure. Haltech if you dont have the money for the Autronic and still want a good system.
Avoid Microtech like the plague. I wouldnt buy a car that had one. I cant say anyhing else without getting my post edited but I speak from experience.

24-05-03, 12:41 GMT+10#26 me too DVS 86, I have had a Microtech in my car for over a year now and haven't found many troubles with it. It may use a bit more fuel but it is piss easy to tune yourself.
My mates 10 second VL also uses it at has never faulted it.

24-05-03, 14:25 GMT+10#27 Ok I'll spell it out here then without going into too many details.
Car tuned at 3 different places all up. used to over fuel and ping, go figure I know.
Used to not save tuneing info, wouldnt start, mid rev range cut out etc etc. Other probs too.
Now many might say it was the car but 3 different places that had a go at tuning all said the car was fine and that it was the Computer. Now this might have been a once off with the individual product but I know other people (4 to be exact) that have all had similar problems). Experience is all bad and thus I will never look at one again.
To be 100% fair to Microtech, it was an older model & I know there is a new model out now but I still wouldnt touch a new one for the same reason.

24-05-03, 15:37 GMT+10#29 Im glad your MT unit works RB3-747. Im sure you can understand why I dont like em though.
PS - Im still working on the avatar, trying to make the Walky fit in a bit better so hopefully it will look more "natural".

24-05-03, 21:29 GMT+10#30 Cheap ECU's are not likely to have a closed-loop function, not likely to be sequential. There are some exceptions - but generally your cheaper ECU's don't have this. This includes EMS, Microtech, Wolf, Haltech - although some of the new models in these brands DO have these features.
But the thing that ALWAYS distinguishes a cheap ECU from a decent one is "tuning resolution" - or "granularity". The cheap ECU's only allow a rough map to be created - meaning you suffer from driveability and economy issues compared to the dearer ones.
An Autronic is ALWAYS gonna be a superior system compared to the cheaper brands. It's on a technical and performance par with Motec, but at a lower cost.

25-05-03, 13:56 GMT+10#33 DVS 86 yes I do understand why you don't like them.
For the price I paid for it though ($600 including hand controller) I shouldn't complain, even with the faults I know it does have.

03-06-03, 13:01 GMT+10#39 dvs - I know of at least one Microtech that drops maps 5 mins after tuning, so I'd agree with anyone that thinks they're crap
I just got a Link installed... I'm happy with it. Even has the closed loop lambda function, for probably cheaper than a Microtech
