24-02-03, 23:43 GMT+10#22 nah....generally it shouldnt, i never had any problems with the return line, but u wouldnt want to take the risk,(quite a pricey job to fix) i would replace the fuel pump as soon as u could, but if u cant then make sure u dont run ur fuel level on low, more work for the fuel pump, and that could lead to being stuck in the middle of no where with a VL that wont turn over.

25-02-03, 12:25 GMT+10#23 Mine did that when i first bought it... i just got told to keep it above 1/4 a tank... it progressively got louder and became quiete noticable... a few months after buying it i was driving along and suddenly the car loses all power and stalls... i replace the fuel pump fuse which was blown, drive a bit, then it happens again... i switch to gas and drive and then it goes a bit then shorts again... anyway, i was only about 10 mins from home but i used about 14 fuses for fuel pump... my uncle disconnected the fuel pumps when i got home and the thing was fine... i got the pumps checked (theres an internal and external one) and they were both shot... needed replacing...

25-02-03, 13:51 GMT+10#24 How did blowing the fuel pump fuse cause issues on gas? Or was it 14 fuses while trying petrol before switching?

26-02-03, 07:20 GMT+10#25 the fuel pumps continued to pump even when the car was switched to gas. The fuel pumps were shorting the electrical system of the car, not just the fuel pump. So whenever the fuel pump shorted out, the car would completely turn off wether i had petrol OR gas selected as the source of driving fuel. The fuel pump fuel blew when both petrol and gas were selected. Once the fuel pumps had been disconnected (my uncle just got under the car at the back for about 12 seconds, came back out and said "there you go, try now") everything ran fine (on gas). I dunno much about cars, im just tellin you what happened

27-02-03, 15:01 GMT+10#27 my vl makes gurgling sounds _all_ the time, but it idles perfect, ie, i cant tell the car is running unless i look at the tacho, and ive never had a flatspot during hard acceleration.

04-03-03, 15:27 GMT+10#28 My N/A did this for ages until i got pissed off with it (only took about 30 sec) but i put up with it for a while. Basically i was told it was the low pressure fuel pump. So i went and bought me a new one from autobarn, when i removed the *******, i found that the fuel host taht connects the Low Pressure pump to the sender unit (about 1-2in piece of fuel line, that was the problem. the fuel had destroyed it over the last 16 yrs and there was a large hole. The fuel, after being pumped was roaring into the side of the tank, making that annoying damn noise i was used to.
So, I change the pump while i was there and also removed the tank, (*&%$ of a job) because the hose was falling to pieces and i didnt want contaminated fuel.
If you dont wanna change your pump just get a small piece of hose, and it will prob cost you an hour or two and about 50 cents.
