as if you would tow man comeon the only car i know that can tow thats a holden is my mates HJ pem and his HQ Vl's are pretty crap for it... i dont get it people are saying drive with the pwr on and some are saying with over drive on... bit confusing if you ask me.. Have you had your auto VL from the start or did you buy it 2nd hand from somewhere?? the problem could be that they stuffed the auto before you even got it you just dont know.. anyway is their anyone know of a good auto to use in the VL's then?? if you all say they are crap and dont last too long etc....

overdrive IS power mode. you overdrive the engine by holding the gears. when the power button is out (on), you are in overdrive. overdrive keeps the revs, and therefore tourque, higher.

cool, i understand it now nice explanation stockcalais btw would having overdrive OFF (button IN) affect say how fast u can get from 0 - 100km/h? i.e slower or faster than overdrive ON mode cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Overdrive is ON when the button is in, Overdrive is OFF when the button is out and you can see the PWR on the button and dash. Overdrive is basically a 4th gear, but a very tall ratio, which means the engine will be reving less, therefore using less fuel.

Mobil HRt, Mate, what are you talking about. Overdrive is on when the LED "PWR" is displayed in your dash cluster and off when the button is pushed in on your automatic gear stick. When I turn overdrive on it brings the car up to higher revs and is not econmical but gives your alot more power. I think you have it back to front. I also rang up a few performance gear shops in Brisbane and they told me that you will get a longer life out of your gearbox if you only switch pwr on after 70km/h(4th gear) but he said the difference is like having a box lasting for 6 years and not 8 years. He also said that over use of the pwr button at low speeds will eventually where 4th gear out. Cheers, JR.

sorry joel, ^Mobil_HRT^ is correct. Overdrive puts you into fourth gear making the engine rev lower, therefore making it harder to accelerate quickly. Thus not using fourth gear (no overdrive) your car will rev higher and accelerate harder, thus why it is called the Power Button. Button in - light off - overdrive on Button out - light on - overdrive off

Sorry mate my mistake. Im just getting bloddy confused. Anyway it all makes since now. Use PWR when driving up to around 80 and overtaking and put overdrive in when cruising along the high way at low revs. Is this correct? Thanks, Joel.

Yeah here's how to remember - overdrive is the slow gear Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ok lads its because of the stall convertor. read this (http://www.ozperformance.net/viewtopic.php?t=5903) thread about half way down it goes into driving with a stall convertor. a) VLs have a 2200 stallie b) if you drive below this rev range the stally is slipping and generating extra heat in the gearbox. do this for years and eventually this will reduce the life expectancy of the box. so unless you are doing 90-100+ (I think that's about 2200 rpm in overdrive? (I duno I haven't had a n/a vl) then you should really be driving around in 3rd (power on).
