haha, nah its coz the police dont have an on the spot dyno, they cannot prove what kind of power output a 300zx has, nor do they know off the top of their head, but in my case upon opening the bonnet, a big chrome 185 injection rocker covers and manifold covers appears.

i have the list of cars that cannot be driven on P plates in vic if anyone is interested in finding out anything, ill be happy to find anything out off the sheet, i picked it up coz im on my P plates and my mum has a 5.0 VL berlina, and my dad has a 4.2 HJ panelvan, so i wanted to know what i could drive. i think the government needs to work out whats legal and what isnt, i mean these little WRXs and supras, etc. that have turbos and whatever are much more powerful than a 30 year old 5.0l HQ or even a 15 year old 5.0 VL, it simply doesnt make sence, i mean even the new V6 commodores have more kilowatt power than out VL, yet its legal for my mate to drive his parents VT wagon, but not for me to drive my mums berlina, i think that having the restrictions on powerful vehicles for P platers is a good idea, if done correctly, i mean my vl has enough power to kill me if i have an accident, let alone a brand spankin GTS coupe'

face it if your on your ps theres 99% chance your inexperienced. As good as you may think you are, your more than likely not the perfect driver. Unless you can control your car under every situation and get back out of it, and I mean extreme levels, your pretty much an inexperienced drive. I will openly say I am an inexperienced driver as i could lose control of my car in some situations. Rules are there for a good reason whether you agree with them or not as later in your life, when things change in your life, you may change your view on why those laws that are in place, so abide by them, the rest of us have too as well so your not the only one out there who has go without, for the sake of a law that is really their for your own safety and other peoples safety from yourself and from other people.

um sorry but i cant remember asking for your ****ed up opinion mate. I asked a simple question of how i can drive my car on my P plates legally, i didnt ask about your superhero mate in his car driving like a *******. There is exeptions for driving high powered vehicles and i need my car for work. im off my P plates in six months and im not selling my car or ****ing walking. Next time you have something completely rediculous to say, keep it to yourself.

Good, seeing as you beleive in this theory, go and read the rules for this forum and see if your post fits in with them. I think you'll find it doesn't. There could have been better ways to have said what you did. Don't let this turn out to become a fight.

I don't agree with it but then u got to think about experience and all that. What i don't get is on your L's which is what i am on at the moment ur aload to drive any car it dosn't matter how much power it has. I know u have a fully liscensed driver next to you but if u take out a 5litre on your first drive it can lead to a serious accident. What the government needs to do is to make a compulsary defensive driving course for everyone before they get their P's. U see to many people today driving a few inches away from your bumper bar along the freeway. Maybe the course would teach people about their consequences. I see P platers all the time in their little $500 cars thrasing them all over the place. I actually think there worse than ur P plater with the nice car but has more power because they don't care if they crash while the guy with the VN 5litre might give it a go at the lights all whatever but dosn't go around corners on the wrongside of the road. I think the government is blamming the increase in road toll on younger drivers with modified cars. The other problem is after driving around with a surpervising driver for a year and then suddenly ur by yourself it leads to people getting too excited about it and going to fast and not having the experience when a dangerous situation arises.

I saw a perfect example of this on the news not long ago. An asain kid who had his licence for 6 weeks brought a Toyota Supra (or his parents did) and two days later he was speeding through traffic and hit the back of another car sending it into oncoming traffic killing the innocnet driver. This is what these laws are trying to prevent, inexperienced people driving high powered cars and killing people. I also agree with stageIII about the laws being unfair, becuse this kid could probabley (not positive) drive his 6 cylinder Supra legally, and it would still be faster than most V8's on the street.

But if its based on a power to weight ratio, he wouldn't be able to drive a supra would he they're got 206kw and a VS has 165kw? i'm not totally sure of the laws in NSW, but some I can see a good reason for them, although they do sound unfair in somecases .....

Muzza - was that case in Queensland? If it was, the asian male who was driving was in a supra and rear ended a 4WD so hard it sent it across the huge grass median strip on the freeway and into traffic coming back the other way. The people in the 4WD were killed instantly and the asian couple in the Supra walked off showing no remorse. Another example of young inexperienced drivers is recently a young asian male and his girlfriend were weaving traffic and hit a tree at an estimated speed of 140. The impact basically made a front cut of the car and killed the driver instantly. I can see where driving high powered cars can be a problem, but at the same time, restricting an 18 year old from driving a VT because its 153kw is crap.

Yeah sorry both of those incidents in my last post happened in Queensland. The driver of the civic that was cut was actually a close friend to all of us at the company i work for so goes to show it can happen to anyone and one of these innocent people killed could be your mum or dad or friend....

Call me a racist if u wish, even tho I am not, but in my honest opinion it seems to me that Asians have quite a hard time controlling and coordinating themselves to drive more than your average Joe. Take for example some stupid asian female the other day in my suburb, driving around the busiest roundabout in the suburb the WRONG WAY. How can someone be allowed to drive when they dont even uderstand the concept of a roundabout ? I don't agree with the "young drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive Hipo vehichles" because it affects me.. but when I think about it properly the young drivers who actually CAN drive are a minority and so that is why people are throwing around ideas like that. But still ? what kinda ****head weaves in and out of traffic, cruises along with their g/f at 140 kph into a tree ? Government definately needs to step in and do something constructive with the law. None of this lowering the speed limit by 10kph ever 5 years. How about teaching people to drive properly. And ripping licences off those who don't respect others on the road, or those who have absolutely no clue and are just a missile waiting to hit an innocent person or a pole. my 2c worth.

Do we ever say a caucasian driver?

I'm really not sure why i made a point of that, i was basically just reading it as it was in the news stories. No racial slur was intended it was merely reading the facts as quoted.

True, most P platers are inexperienced its for you own sake, look at NZ P platers with GTRs, supras, guess where they end up ? The morg ! It aint funny, plus P platers drive very fast (they got a heavy foot), they always want to race you things like that. They are just not mature enough to handle the power! Rules are made to protect cilivians. Sorry to say but a V8 is too powerful for a P.

we realise why the rules are in place, and we understand that yes high powered vehicles cause a lot of accidents, but what we dont understand is why the rulings arnt consistant, a VL turbo has more power than a V8 VL yet turbos are legal for P platers, it doesnt make sence
