I used the short boot struts from a current falcon. They are neater, smaller (only about 250mm) & cleaner. Try it sometime.

Woo hoo i put struts on tonight, it took about 30 mins. I bought two VS struts from wreckers for $45 with 4 ball joints. I drilled holes to get maximum bonnet height. Also i had a bit of a problem because all my ball joints were on right-angle brackets, so i had to belt two of them flat. (right angle is good on the guards but you need flat brackets on the bonnet hinge.) I had to adjust the brackets on the bonnet a bit to get the bonnet to shut perfectly. Hope info helps

yea the struts off of the 84 laser fit perfectly without any holes being drilled at maximum bonnet height...... i picked out the best set in the wreckers and they r still like new, so they work sweet. no offence taken injection...... i know exactly wot u mean with some things, but these were like new

nah, it was a brand new VS short motor from Holden, with brand new heads and a VP injection system. Engine covers are from a VT though.

Took me a while, but i've finally done it in mine .. *WELL* worth the money and time guys .. If you havn't done it, do it .. I used brand new VL wagon tailgate struts (from autobarn, $45ea), and bought 4 ball joints from a strut recharge place near where i work for $4ea, and then went to worth this last weekend. Very simple job. The joints I had were the exact same thread size as the upper bolts so went in perfectly .. the lower ones the joints were bigger than the holes in the metal brackets, so i took em out, and drilled bigger holes .. put it all back together, and its perfect! One strut on its own was actually able to hold the bonnet quite reliably .. but with 2 its a much solid feel and actually takes a good push to shut it, which is a bit re-assuring Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

No air flow meter gives it away that it is not a VT engine, nice conversion though, good work

BoostedCal: Sure thing buddy .. This would probably have been the most expensive way to have done it (short of having paid someone to do the installation for you) and it only cost me just on $100 .. you could do it for less so I'd class this as a very effective and very cheap mod Looks cool, raises the bonnet higher, holds it stronger than the original stand does and is just plain fun Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
