At the moment i'd be happy with an engine that didn't use an alternator up every 3 months.
That asside, i am starting to think 10 grand is a bit pricey to be spending on it. I'll probably end up buying a supercharger off the stock V6 engine then a Commsport adapter kit for more boost.
Although VLT06 is a very nice car, i'd kill myself in something so quick.
would require too much work.. i'd love to do it but it'd need a ****load of custom work.
At least either an injected V8, Turbo, or Supercharger wouldn't need engine mounts and so on.
Because the naturally aspirated VS engines are a 40 year old pushrod peice of puss that has been flogged like a dead horse.
I spose its still gonna be a peice of puss if i force it, but it'll at least be a peice of puss with a hair dryer.
2 brothers I used to work with both did up the Holden V6 with "decent" results..
they just oversized everything, and 1 of them put a shift kit on it (with obligatory 5" monster tach, going off at 3000rpm --> I sh|t u not)
If you're after originality, get someone to make you a pair of exhuast manifolds that meet, on say, one side of the engine, and bolt a turbo to that, re tune the ECU and boost's yer uncle.
Always remember CAPA have bolt-on blowers for around $5K

Also, put the toyota badges back on, put a bowling hat on the rear shelf, and make it a sleeper
They would have it really moving yeah. and still be perfectly alright ADR wise to i think, BUT the setback there is the $$$... those engines can be anywhere from $6150 to upwards of $10,000 for just a crate engine from the states.
The other problem then is making it fit nice and snuggly, there would need to be alot of stuff customised, e.g. tailshaft, engine mounts, computer, gearbox mounts and who knows what else, for memory it works out to be about the size of a 350cui and takes up a fair whack of room.
Yeah thats gonna be the real problem the cost of all that stuff + the installation and matinence! A wise man once told this; anything that wears a skirt or has four wheels is only gonna get you into trouble. But hey it would be great to see a VS with the current 5.7 V8 or even the 300kw HSV variant under the bonnet, she would really get up and boggie then!
You should be able to get the V6 into the 14's.
I've got an old copy of Street Commodores somewhere here, where they did a cam, ECU, exhaust & 3.9 diff change on a VN 6.
It ran a 14.9. Sure the VS is a little heavier than a VN, but it also has a better engine to start with.
Have a look a the current Street Commo's, they detail the changes between the Ecotec & the previos version V6's. (Things like much better port design etc).
At risk of getting stoned for saying it on a site like this, dont go back to a VL, enjoy the driveability & smoothness of the VS, and do something different!
Sell your car buddy. Everyone always won't to go faster eventully and the holden v6, they suck, sorry to say. They would never pull 14's stock.
Just buy a new car !!
For $8,000 i can loose traction in overdrive in my 4spd auto travelling at 100kph...
For 10k your **** little 3.8L will struggle to bag it up in first :P
Sell the lexcen, and buy a ****en VLT, not a VL n/a, dont be a girl
