29-10-02, 17:13 GMT+10#21 mesh seems like a great idea cause it stops small pieces of debris but obviously won't effect the flow of air.

29-10-02, 17:19 GMT+10#22 yeah mesh would be ok, as long as it wasnt too fine, a nice coarse bit of mesh would be good to stop unwanted stones etc...

02-11-02, 14:15 GMT+10#23 i have a simple one.simply get a 13"drill bit and drill mutiple holes in ur box. mate of mine told me that,he trird it on his vp and reckons it works really well.but ur airfilter gets dirty really quickly and would most likely need changing every 2 weeks.

It wouldnt happen very often. Only when it rains really hard and there is a lot of water lying on the road. It has happened to me, my mechanic estimated my engine swallowed around 2 litres of water (flash flood on the road 2 years ago). My k&n panel filter stopped soooo much crap getting in. The engine spluttered heaps, blew a crap load of black smoke. but started perfectly in the morning, never had a prob with the turbo or head or nothing. It was the end for the electrics in the engine bay though, had to replace everything - crank angle, dizzy, afm, coil. And no my induction pipe isnt too low. Freak occurance yes, but it can happen.

a 13" drill??? 8O you wouldn't have an air box left

Yeh I agree that you'd have to watch out for flash floods, and wouldn't want to cross where there is water over the road, that would be disasterous! but water from rain (not puddles of watter) shouldn't harm the engine at all, probaly do it some good, make the intake air more dence, help reduce detonation.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

03-11-02, 14:33 GMT+10#27 I've got a Walky front bar with CAI attached to the front brake air dam
straight up through the guard into the bottom of the stock air box with a K&N panel filter.
Used to have a K&N pod filter but it sucks too much hot air from the engine bay.
You need to build a barrier between the engine and filter to stop the hot air.
After much messing around. Stock box is best for NA. On a turbo with intercooler it should be ok to have a POD filter becuase the intercoller will drop intake temps.
Also when driving when raining I stay away from the car in front coz most of the water that gets sucked up is from the mist that comes of the cars tyres infront.
Also I get lotsa moths and bugs in there.
Many people have said the cold air setup does nothing or not very noticeable.
This is probably true if it is not getting forced into your filter.
My setup forces the air into my airbox and all of the air is coming from outside. Which is a hell of a lot colder than my engine bay.
Thats my 2cents

Not really fully true, if the air temp going into the turbo is at engine bay temp (eg 25degrees) then goes through turbo (say it increases by 18 degrees from turbo) it will then be 43, then it gets cooled by I/C (by say 20 degrees) you get a finish temp of 23. But if u had a cold air intake, it would be running say 15 degrees into it, you would end up with an output temp of 13 degrees, much better....(these obviously arent realistic temps but hey u should get my point)...

04-11-02, 10:34 GMT+10#29 I have a VL Calais turbo !
I just finished putting vcold air induction on my car on the weekend. I blocked off the origional air intake and cut a hole out below the air box and ran a 4inch ( big mother !! ) PVC pipe out to the grill ! I painted it black ! ( it looks really mean ! )
I took it 4 a spin that night ! It flies ! I highly recommend anyone doing it ! The performance increase was significant and it cools the motor down too !
cheers
