AFM on a VL should be between 3.5v and 3.8v.

The o2 sensor allows the engine to run in "closed loop" mode. When the engine is in certain states i.e. idle, cruising, light load, the o2 sensor monitors the exhaust gas then adjusts the amount of fuel delivered to acheive an air/fuel ratio around 14.7:1. When the engine is accelerating or under high load it runs in "open loop". The ecu has a base map which it uses to put in a set amount of fuel (dependant on other sensors, but not the o2). This is to reduce any chance the engine may lean out. So if your AFM is OK, a faulty o2 sensor will not cause an engine to run rough, but it may use more fuel.
