well ive got two vl both with v8 one with a walky motor and one getting a inj 304 dropped in it next weekend. both have heaps of room and look heaps better and dont worry about power little rebuild with a big cam(crane 286) flat tops it will be quite quick on the street for a street car.

I've owned both with the first one being a factory 5 speed Calais Turbo. Was a nice car and with a cam and some extra boost it went pretty well too. Then cam the VK Group 3 and now my current ride is another VL Calais, but V8 this time. After getting pissed off with the really bad fuel economy (read 260k's to a tank round town) for 122kw's, I ripped the carby donk out and sold it off and chucked in a VS EFI 5.0 instead. Now I get my nice VL lines, along with that V8 sound and the benefits of fuel injection. If the car made 400hp and did 260k's to a tank i'd be stoked, but not 122kw's. The turbo's are really smooth to drive and good on fuel, even when you get 'em on boost all the time for comparing stock vs stock, i'd say go the Turbo. If you don't mind spedning a little cash, go the V8 and convert to EFI or do a bit of work and you can get it to go quite well. Having said that, it's certainly pretty easy to get a high 13 out of your turbo VL without too much trouble or cost.
