Ford's don't have V6s in them! They're still inline sixes which would lead me to believe its still the aussie one. Yeah the V6 they intend using in the future (and the V8 they have now) are yankee iron tho. yeah VLs are good for 15 year old cars but I'd still have a VX anyday over one Quote: Originally Posted by Fresh VL old gold ur as smart as my shoes Can't argue with that! oi, i would much prefer to do up a 253 than a 308. because they rev a whole ****n lot harder than the 5.0. But if you spent the same money on most, of course the 5.0 would kill the 4.2

I think it comes down to the tuning, injector condition, kilometers, etc when it comes to how smooth the VL motors are, they are a bloody smooth motor when they are in good nick,I have been in 270,000 km VL I couldn't hear run at idle. THe VX is also a smooth engine but would be equal in smoothness to the VL,our VX does get a bit rough when idling for a while in hot weather,my VL motor is pretty smooth, for a 430,000 km motor anyway,it is smoother than a VN,even a VT series 1 I went into wasn't as smooth as the VL,the VX is much more refined than the first of the ECOTECs which also used to flog out main bearings due to poor balancing of the harmonic balancer. Its true to this day that the Nissan motor was the best engine ever fitted to a Holden, but it isn't true that they were manufactured in Australia, they were going to build them in Australia when they planned to use it in the VN & VP Commodores, but when it started costing Holden money to fit the RB30 into the VL,they quickly ditched that motor and the VN was rough & readily assembled with the VN motor, they didn't hav enough time to improve it. Unfortunately it is a fact the V6 isn't built to as tighter tolerances, just have to look at their specs (i.e. connecting rod bearing clearance for the RB30 is 0.005 - 0.017mm,the clearance for the v6 is 0.008-0.071mm) The idea of building the RB30 here was canned, also ask anyone in the know about the AVIS car hire in AUstralia,a neighbour who used to live near us is a panel beater by trade,he also did the repairs to the AVIS cars as well said the VL's were used and that company was so impressed by the reliability of the engine that they went to the Nissan Skyline when they stopped making the VL Commodore. These days however, they started using the AU Falcons because they were cheaper, they also used the VX COmmodore, out of their fleet nearly all of the Falcons were forever in the workshop getting fixed, they only had "1" alternator problem with a VX out of the whole fleet,so they got rid of the Falcons and went to Holden, says something for Fords quality control.
