The Rb2.4 is a stroked version of the rb20 there are actually 3 different versions
maybe even more. They are the 2.4 which is using the rb26 crank and rods and 80 or 82 mm pistons.
There is also the rb2.3 which is using rb25 crank and pistons. and there is the rb2.2 which is
using stock rods but with the bored out pistons.
In Japan these engine put out 600 ps + quite often and you can use very large turbos like
the trust T88 because it now has the torque. also the red line can be move to
8500 at least when using the rb26 crank and rod. I'm not sure which bearing to use but
I might attempt this buid with in the next year or 2 I also feel that this engine would be in in N/A for.

U relize u have to get me thinks 30-31mm pistons to suit ?
Also this engine wouldn't have much chop in N/A form...

Okay time to disperse some myths regarding an RB20DET conversion.
1. Many believe that the engine is from a lighter car; not true. A VL SL weighs 1253kg or so, whereas the R32 weighs 1290kg.
2. An ECCS RB20DET (the only one you should get) makes 160kW at the flywheel stock. RB30ET is 150kw. Torque doesn't differ much; about 30Nm or so, but keep reading.
3. Low down torque is not quite no non-existant as people would like you to believe! Sure it may lack in comparison to an RB30ET, but that is a 3 litre engine not built for revving so much due to its bore x stroke ratio, causing more low down torque and less rev'ability. Is this engine is as pathetic as many have claimed, why does it come stock in so many performance cars HEAVIER than a VL, e.g. Nissan Cefiro, Nissan Skyline GTS-t, etc!
4. The reason some people have had poor results with RB20DETs in their VL's, e.g. the tiger mica one from FullBOOST, would probably be due to getting the gearing wrong. Gearing should be equal to what the gearing is on the car the engine is pulled from. On a Skyline, 4.3. Get more torque through the gearing.
5. 160kW at the rear wheels is achievable with very minor mods without modifying the turbo; upp'ed boost to 14psi or so, high flowing exhaust, and high flowing intake. 160kW is a very large leap from the 75rw kW or so that drivers of N/A VL 3 litres currently have, making this quite a good and cheap conversion with 100% power gains to the wheels.
6. RB20DET's are quite cheap to purchase as a half cut when compared to a VL turbo and 5 speed gearbox. The VL turbo engine is rare, and in demand. Not a good thing when someone wants something done cheap.
Anyway thats my 2 cents, and end of rant. I hope I've enlightened a few people.
Cheers, Craig.

Found this:
RB20E 97kw@5600rpm 172Nm@4400rpm
RB20DE 116kw@6400rpm 184Nm@5200rpm
RB20DET (Red top) 134kw@5600rpm 225Nm@4400rpm
RB20DET (Silver top) 160kw@6400rpm 263Nm@3200rpm
RB25DE 142kw@6400rpm 231Nm@4800rpm
RB25DET 187kw@6400rpm 295Nm@4800rpm
RB26DETT 208kw@6800rpm 368Nm@4400rpm
RB30E 114kw@????rpm 247Nm@????rpm
RB30ET 150kw@????rpm 296Nm@????rpm
I can't find something similar matched with revs for the RB30E and RB30ET, can someone post them if they have them.

Hi All,
I had a N\A 3.0 litre before replacing it with an RB20DET and speaking from first hand experience, the VL has a whole new lease of life. I agree with every point mentioned by ***crzy. He is right on the money regarding the RB20DET.
It all depends on how much power you are after. If you are after high 11's or low 12's in the Qtr, then this might not be the engine for you, but if you are after a respectable performance engine and working on a low budget then this engine is perfect.
Thanks,
Brian

An RB30 is not a poor revving engine if topped off with a twin cam head.
The bore X stroke ratio is square in the 3 litre engine (best of both worlds).
I remember when I cannibalised an RB25DE for its pistons and head (for an RB30DE engine build) I looked at the stroke and internals of the engine and was surprised how shorter stroking engine it was and how much smaller the components were.
I am going to have a twin cam 3 litre which is going to have potentially more bottom end torque than even the RB30E,I know of someone who has fitted an RB25DET to an R31 Skyline and he said it is a real crud to drive below 3000 RPM in everyday urban traffic.
Guido Seevens had fitted one of these engines to a 2 litre VL in New Zealand,I hear people are talking about gearing but he geared his up from the 4.11:1 diff ratio as it was way too low for the 2.5 litre, the 3.45:1 ratio made an improvement but there are people who still complain about that.
I would personally not go for anything lower than a 3 litre engine as I can see that to match the gearing up for an RB20,25 I can envisage the engine will be revving its nut off pretty high as the car if it had a lower diff ratio would be geared more for city driving, but once you get on the highway the engine will be sitting at 3000-4000 RPM constantly at around 120 KPH,the fuel economy will be worse than I'd expect from a smaller engine as the person who has it in the R31 has the standard 3.7:1 gearing,it gets 8-9 l/100 kms,but gear it lower and it will be more like 12-13l/100 kms,it would take some life off the motor too.
Both these 2 people are also going for RB30's now, they are cannibalising their RB25 engines and fitting the heads, pistons, etc to RB30 engine blocks.
All I am saying is an RB20,25,etc, doesn't do much for everyone.

Hi people
Having just converted my vl to an rb20det and helping in a mates swap into and r31 skyline ive got nothing but praise for the baby rb. my mates skyline has had the same mods performed on it as mine( front mount cooler,3 inch exaust and 14 psi boost) with standerd computer and has run 13.3 on street tyres. the only diffrence between the cars is im still running the standerd 3.45 diif ant the moment and he has a 4.11 from a pintara.
Impressive stuff i recon, but i will admit that my gearing is much more highway friendly than his but it all comes down to what you want to do wilh the car. Weekend warrior or daily driver? the choice is yours.
what ever you decide the engine will be up to it!!

hey ppl I have a VL calais with a Nissan RB20DET in it, Its a fairly easy conversion, I did most of it in my backyard, get the silver rocker cover engine out of the R32 GTS-T its the best and will give u around 160kw in stock form, everything is straight bolt up, the only thing I had to get was new heater hoses, flange for a pod filter and thats it everything bolts up, as for the wirring of it I got JPC in Melb to do that and the intercooler. the wirring is best left to the pro's to do 8)
