i wouldnt think so as the switch is to tell the automatic gearbox when to shift (to let it rev out or to shift at more sedate revs), and when to shift down a gear.
its not a 'mod' its rectifying something that has worn out over the years. it doesnt affect normal driving, unless of course you normally drive with your foot flat to the floor. that is the only time the switch really comes into play. it just tells the computer that you are getting a bit serious and not just cruising along.
goldvl it doesnt rev to redline when you are just driving to work in the morning. it will change at the usual places when cruising, but when you gun it it changes where it should. i didnt need to do it with my previous two vl's but it made a huge difference on this one. instead of changing at 60 where its just starting to get exciting, it changes at 80 like it should.
in short, if your vl doesnt change into second at around 70-80 when your foot is flat then do this, you will never regret it  and you are a fool if you dont.
dont use a dodgy piece of hose, just tighten the acc cable!!!!
1. Loosen the acc cable and pull it off the tension thing.
2. Have an assistant press as hard as ****ing possible on the acc pedal
3. pull the throttle wide open and then tension the acc cable.
4. Get assistant to press down on acc again, hopefully it will goto wide open
5. If not, adjust it very slightly again, until ur assistant cam dump their foot all the way (thus striking the kick down switch) and getting FULL THROTTLE! That's how i did mine.
Note that that accelator cable should be LOOSE when it is let off, NOT TIGHT, as then u cannot hit the kickdown switch Do it how i have described and it will work fine
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
but it has nothing to do with the cable. it is the actual accelerator pedal that pushes against the kickdown switch when it reaches a certain point. what would tightening the accel to get a proper WOT do?
my accelerator pedal is hard up against the floor at full throttle. without the extra thickness i put on the top of the pedal, it would never of reached the detent switch. it just isnt possible to push the pedal through the floor. I would say over 15 years of use, the pedal has bent slightly, or the detent switch has moved (but i cant see any provision for that though).
Yes BUT If the cable has too much tension then you will not hit the switch i had this problem. When the moronic mechanic put a new cable protector on he tightened the cable but it was too tight, and hence couldnt hit the kickdown switch
