I think it's 20 though, not 5. Keep it though mate, it's certainly worth it. No there isn't any other way to tell a genuine HDT Calais, short of chasing up the VIN number with Holden. Also, that build sheet, if it is even still there after 24 years, is a HOLDEN sheet.... from the factory. HDT never did that. The only way to tell is if it has a build plate... SOME of the HDT Calais wagons had them, depending on how many accessories the buyer had HDT fit to the vehicle. To qualify for a HDT build plate and build number, a vehicle has to have a certain number of key modifications, if these mods weren't fitted, then the car did not get a build plate and number, even if final assembly was completed there. The only way to get an idea is from the date of manufacture. Anything before the start of the A9Y production run is a HDT assembled wagon. This one MAY be a mock up assembled from Calais parts, but i doubt it. The colour scheme is a popular one for the HDT assembled ones. They made 40 HDT Designer Series Calais wagons, and many of those had a similar colour scheme. This one does not have a designer series dash badge, so i doubt it is a Designer series, just a regular HDT assembled one. Still rare though. Hope that clears things up for you. Like VLTWhite1, I am a Calais wagon nut. Hence the username :P Interesting that you say they made 40 designer series wagons? The designer series only stared in september of 87,The split happened in feb 88.You will be lucky if they made 8 odd wagons till the end of HDT.Ours is a Calais Sport build no 4106(HDT's own car)I know of 4 wagons(and that is from HDT's paper work)I know the designer series was not plated,But highly unlikely that anywhere near that figure was made. There was a number of Calais wagons built by HDT for GMH(appox 200) but these also were not plated unless they had a certain amount of HDT mods done to them and these were done in 86 early 87. Cheers Marty Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Hi Marty, I'm actually thinking the 1986-7 HDT-built Calais wagons are much rarer than the A9Y's, with nowhere near 200 finished. In all the years of searching for these things I've come across maybe 6 or 7 "standard" Calais wagons identifiable as HDT's (rear compartment trim treatment etc), versus finding 90-odd of the A9Y's in the same period. Appreciate your thoughts. How did you get on with those windscreen trims in the end. Mick (c/nut) said you'd polished up a set of repro ones to match the gloss originals. I found they polish up alright but they're a fraction narrower and won't accept the clips without bowing. Craig Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Craig I managed to get a left hand mould(GMH) from Len and Sid(old hdt) and found an NOS one from down south,So was quite lucky. But you are quite correct about finding the genuine plated cars. Not many left or made. There are more myths than cars made. Cheers Marty Just checked the repo moulds beside the genuine GMH ones and you are right just slightly narrower.Learn something everyday. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Cheers, Shane. A9Y or HDT Calais? Rust? 6 NA, 6 Turbo or V8? Auto or manual (only possible if it is HDT or modded) Rust or panel damage? Paint faded? All original or modded, if it is modded what mods? Matching numbers engine and body? The more info you can provide the better.

All electrics work I would offer somewhere around $2000 but to be honest you would probably get a bit more if you advertised on Ebay. Probably about $3000 maybe even a touch more if it has a bit of rego.

Ha Yeah i was waiting for something negative from here....Keep your opinoins to yourself buddy, only advertising to see if any1 wants it before i pull it off the road and paint it. As for mods, they are minimal, i wouldn't say poor.
