It should have just used more and more oil, the conrod is fatigue over time. Bang a atmo bottom end in it with a cometic head gasket, you'lll be back on the road next weekend, thats what i am doing if mine pops, **** spending money on single cam heaps of **** cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

up to you.....If you can pull a motor out and put one in and can find a good n/a bottom end(150-170,000km ) to put your head/cam on, then it is a heaps cheap way to get going again...be under $700 even with a rering it would be under a $1000 , and it should have no probs holding together at the 300-320rwkw mark.If you use the middle size cometic gasket ..you will pick up compression aswell..so it will spool quicker and make more power than before. Not my money though, If you did a built motor, put a 66mm front wheel in the 3540 etc it would be a good thing aswell....I just dislike spending money on old SOHC motors....They have a ****ty short powerband compared to twin cams and are grossly ineffienct..but get the job done i guess. Peak horsepower doesn't win races less power over a wider powerband will always be quicker. cheers darren

yeah i get what ur saying. not really wasted money tho, cos im not gonna be dumping much money into the head. if i waste a bit of cash building up a good bottom end, can always put a twin cam head on later on (*correct me if im wrong*). wanna go for more pwr aswell dude, so the N/A bottom end probly wont last very long. very true what ur saying about twin cam heads compared to SOHC heads tho.

Not unless you put N/a comp forgies in it, and then the comp will be 2 high. Putiing a twin cam head on top of stock comp vlt pistons ends up with the comp in the 6's , But this is what I have been thinking lately...you could build a bottom end for a twin cam with high comp and then put a thick cometic head gasket it to decomp it for single cam duty's, then later just change the head gasket and fit the twin cam head and it would all be sweet..and you would end up with a better compression ratio anyway. I know a excellent machinist/engine builder if anyone wants a motor built, back yarder jobs but not a yarder, the same person that builds your motor, machines it(and thats the important part). Is a champ and i would trust him with anything Nissan, has ported all my heads and others over the yrs aswell. Is a bit of a perfectionist aswell and has pride in his work cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
