26-04-12, 17:11 GMT+10#42 I offered a old guy in Cairns 8K for a Berlina turbo identical to the white one, stock as a rock, how it rolled off the factory floor.... He said "you are like the 100th person that has asked me to sell, I will never sell it"! i walked out of his shop going DAM!! lucky tho... got a stock standard Calais 5L burgandy over silver with 165kms for 9k about 6months later....
im glad i got the calais instead......

Went and had a look at this one back in November. The interior is amazing, except for the wheel and shrouds. It was stolen, briefly, and recovered. Original wheel was trashed, as was the shroud. It was also resprayed not long afterwards as there was some drivers door damage from the theft. Old Italian guy only registers it for three months a year during summer.

26-04-12, 18:10 GMT+10#44 The steering wheel would be worth a bit of coin yeah?

Oh there's plenty of us that want to buy mint originals (and would pay big $ for them), just most of them aren't.
Take that white Berlina...
Rocker cover repainted
Nose cone badge wrong
Bootlid turbo badge wrong
Steering wheel wrong
Exhaust not original
Aftermarket radio (usually means buggered main dash)
Bumpers repainted
You look at that list and it's far from original, and you have to wonder what sort of previous life it's had and why a lot of these things needed doing on an "original" 200K car.

I'd pay 10 for a clean original car with no intention of modding it. Maybe lower it a tad though

28-04-12, 09:47 GMT+10#50 interesting about the wall claim. I've been told some pretty serious porkies before and a call to the previous owner is always a good move if you can. Its a mint looking car. whats changed can be easily reversed. but at the end of the day not "original." the super glossy paint and the small differences tell me its a restored example. (though some may debate the merit of calling this "restored")
anyway hope anyone bidding gives it a once over.

You obviously weren't around in the late 80s - early 90s to witness the mayhem these cars created. Almost every second day on the news had a VL turbo lent from dad to his son wrapped around a pole along with another fatality on the roads. In actual fact, I am lead to believe that the VL turbo was the model where the government knew that had to do something with the P-plater laws & powerful cars. As for the power difference, have you seen a VL Turbo series 1 & a series 2 on an engine dyno during the testing & tuning phase? didn't think so.
Holden at the time didn't want this advertised however they did want to show the government that they were concerned for the public safety & were doing something about it for the vehicles sold public, however this was not the case for the vehicles destined for the Police Department. The difference ranged from 5kw - 7kw less for the public but it was enough to say Holden were doing something about it. After all, if it wasn't for Holden winning the government contract, the VL turbo would not have existed. Nissan exclusively had to create this engine purely on the basis of Holden winning the government contract with the Police Department, and that is why my friend Nissan didn't, and couldn't have the turbo engine as they would have been contenders for winning the government contract as well....just a bit of trivia for you.
I love know it all's... What a nob. Based on what fact? His word?? LOL
