09-01-12, 18:58 GMT+10#42 From reading the nonsense of others, There is no way a Insurer will insure a VLT Calais series 2 above $15,000.00 (Top dollar).
I work for a insurance company, And through Shannons $15,000 -Top dollar & not a cent more. (no photos or car presented in person. -I work for Suncorp which owns Shannons).
---
And through LSV-Lumley, which I have another classic insured with them, they are cheaper. Top value $15,000.00 and that's for a fully restored Calais with a few mods.
---
I found it bizzare that both Shannons & LSV would only insure for $15,000.00. ( I tried to reason why I cannot insure for what I think is fair @ $25,000.00. (I have spent alot more than that on the car), And the Insurers reason is that Market prices dictate this Vl's in general sell for under $15,000 unless it is a HSV or Brock model-Give it time and a Calais Turbo will creep up in value, Alot of cars have been destroyed and any decent examples will appreciate in value, As majority of VL owners pay insurance coverage under $15,000.00.
And I would never insure with a "Nobody Insurer" they have no support & make claims a nitemare. (big company's Suncorp, Wesfarmers, will not let you down if everything is legit & honest).

They (Shannons) do insure for over, well over actually, $15k if whoever you're dealing with is able to do so or thinks it's worth doing so (ie: highly modified examples).
Even upto $15k for an immaculate original Calais Turbo isn't out of the question, depends on the car though and what has been restored etc. I personally wouldn't be doing more than $15k for lightly modified VL, ever.
VL's are not worth sh*t unless they're highly modified and well presented.

10-01-12, 07:53 GMT+10#44 i think it's how many mods you have,
when i read out my mods to the guy at shannons, he said what do u want to insure it for, he said he was happy to insure it for what ever i just to remember the monthly amount will go up, so i said 13k, like i said, when the 26 goes in i'll be up that buy at least 5 k (not even close to what a 26 costs to put in) so that will get mine to 18, i suppose also my car, a car i drive a few time a week, (well since i've insured it it has been driven 6 time, one of that was 2 days from melbourne to darwin, would be totally different if i drove it every day to work etc!

Well I'd like to know who you spoke with from Shannons/Suncorp, So I can contact them internally @ work. They will not over insure, there is restructures within the company to keep costs down-ie less payouts.
(Maybe years ago when Shannons was Shannons things are different now, It's now owned by a Bank-Suncorp).
You want the value to be over insured, There has been that many events, Floods, Hail storms, Fires etc over the past few years, Besides accidents and if your car is deemed a "Total Loss" you only get paid what the market or agreed value is that you paid your insurance on.
The idea of Insurance is piece of mind knowing that should something bad happen you will be ok, may repair the damage or purchase another vehicle.
And the comment you made about VL's not worth sh*t, Alot of guys & girls are passonate about there VL's ,This is probably not the forum for you.

I had 19s on my VLCT insured with SGIC, the wheels where listed on the policy, but not covered, much the same as having a massive stereo.
When i first got the car they wouldnt allow them, unless they were less than 7.5inches wide (puts all the standard HSV wheels out).

17-01-12, 11:53 GMT+10#52 So i called Lumely Special Vehicles (133578).
I am 28 no loss with a excellent driving past no loss of anything blah blah blah.
I have and sl auto bt1 with a front mount 3 inch boost gauge and lowered nothing spastic! The agreed value on that vehicle was $5,500 nothing more nothing less. Just because you pay thousands of dollars doesn't mean you will get that back. Also they cross reference with what you advise Vic Roads when you submit your transfer papers. I asked him if i could jack up the price considering I think its worth more and I couldn't buy one for that price now he said no flat out!
Either the blokes that are insuring for big bucks are lying or have had the vehicle inspected by the insurance company in person and agreed value with them.

20-01-12, 20:08 GMT+10#53 I just transfered from Lumley to Shannons today, 15k agreed value. Sounds all good but i reckon when it comes to making a claim they will probably find a reason to revoke the claim. Hope i never have to make a claim anyway
