23-08-11, 22:01 GMT+10#41 Its probably got a bigger cross sectional dimension than the TO4Z (i.e. flows more/breathes better), its just because the compressor wheel is so much bigger the AR figure is smaller, check out the garrett website for more info as im just an amateur at this stuff
bit small, but decent enough diagram to outline aspect ratios

24-08-11, 01:17 GMT+10#42 So being a smaller, that mean it would spool quicker, right??

24-08-11, 08:05 GMT+10#43 Not sure on that, usually thats in reference to the exhaust housing. Dont quote me on this but you may find that a TO4Z with an 0.82 Rear will spool quicker than a GT42 with a 0.82 rear, just because of the size.
Another thing thats interesting, I spoke to Anthony at maatouks on monday and asked him what the biggest turbo you can run on a manual is, he said GT42 and T51R are approaching the biggest you can go, but you need smaller housings for them as you have no stall'y to build up boost off the line like you do in an auto (i think the smallest housing you can get for a GT42 from garrett is 1.01 or 1.05, but JPC modify other housings to fit the rear of the GT42 which brings the AR down to 0.82, im currently waiting for a quote on this from them)

24-08-11, 10:01 GMT+10#44 You can run as large a turbo as you want.. things like two steps and clever tuning help. Those manual 2JZ's in the states are runnon 82-100mm compressors they get it up and off the line without a problem.
There is heaps more options in the Precision line up for small engine large turbo setups.. Garrett isn't the only manufacturer of turbos in the world.

Yeah, TEMPER runs a huge turbo yet gets off the line without any troubles without using N20, its probably that magic maatouk cam

24-08-11, 16:35 GMT+10#50 we have used grants (proboost) turbo's on a few cars now, 30/26, ford motors and rotors, there pretty good, even the ones we have had dramas with grand has always looked after us with warranty ect.

25-08-11, 18:22 GMT+10#51 i tried mine last night at willow for the first time.(proboost 42r)
was able to manage a 1.6 60ft ,without 2 step setup just free rev and drop clutch.
however did manage to turn the slicks also on another pass too.and then smash diff and tailshaft on next pass.
lag is no issue even in a manual setup.

11-09-11, 17:54 GMT+10#52 Been looking into the TO4Z and GT45 and can't make my mind up. Was wondering roughly what Rpm the Proboost GT45 spools up at? If anyone with one can help.

Tempers turbo is a Garret T51r and runs 42 psi. I have personally watched his monster tacho as he leaves the line, its a massive clutch dump, hence why he gets such a big twisted launch

Xash is actually right on the money i think, if you look harder you'll find most manual 2J run nitrous that sprays inbetween gears to stay on boost, anything bigger than a 4508 on a 2J and they struggle in between gears, so seeing as a Rb30 swallows less air, i reckon that would be about right. They usually spray 47-80's and above, i kinda worked out in my head any bigger than a 76mm would need to be sprayed on a single cam manual long ago, whether i am right is another matter, be close though
cheers

21-09-11, 09:58 GMT+10#59 A 45 is a fucker of a large turbo on a small engine, wouldn't suprise me if they are spraying to keep them up. That kind of info probably isn't everywhere. They would be pretty close to being left of the surge line. You still have to lift even with a dog box so its going to bleed down psi. I've never driven a lenco, but I don't believe they need to. Even if you use a clutch kicker set for the ignition cut, your going to bleed down some, but watching that dude in the fastest manual Supra change gears, its not off song for very long at all.
I would be happy to give a 45 a go on an RB.. I reckon I could work it out to keep it up.
