07-07-11, 12:38 GMT+10#41 Aus880 that guy did deserve it, he done the wrong thing too many times but its just sad to see people get ****ed over pretty bad just like bro speed said even if its their first time and it wasn't something that dangerous at all.
Worst of all is you get people come one here saying **** like "bla bla hes a **** he ****ing deserves it bloody inbred scum bla bla" but i bet ya thats the same people that drink drive and do other stupid ****, but its ok because they're the ones doing it and if some one else does it they're wankers and inbred scum....
It's sad that some one with a nice car is found guilty until found innocent and gets the whole extent of the law handed down on their asses, while some one that's killed some one while drink driving or something like that gets months/years of freedom and no punishment until he is found guilty of it, even though he obviously is guilty if he was drink driving and hit some one its plain stupid.

Excellent post and totally reiterates my post that this whole anti hoon campaign is nothing more than just a money making scheme.
If you do wrong, expect wrong to comw by you, i am not defending people that have/ are doing the wrong thing, i just find this whole concept to be idiotic and to make matters worse the officer doesn't need proof to impound your car...

and when a news story gets posted up you aren't forced to reply, it's just an article that's funny in many ways: the idiot has done the wrong thing before and now he does it again and falls asleep at the wheel
it's not posted up to start or cause arguments, have a laugh at it, discuss it maybe, but there's no need to be angry ffs
Who hear is complaining about the newspaper article? The article is in many ways funny, i concur with you there. I couldn't think of a more idiotic way to be caught.
But it's the essence of the article we're here debating, the whole hoon legislation (going beyond defending the hoons) and this being an open topic, i guess we are all entitled to an opinion whether or not you like it.

08-07-11, 16:33 GMT+10#43 i rekon stupid laws like this will cause more death on our toll, because personally if i was to get court hoonin no way ill stop if it was my 2nd time or 3rd time, pretty much no point on stopping because if you fink about it the cost of it, will be pretty much worth more then the average car and youll loose ur license aswell, so might aswell try pulling a runner and try your luck, if you get lucky just report the car stolen.. oh if you cant get away in 15mins don't bother trying just pull over

08-07-11, 17:38 GMT+10#44 Everyone keeps saying that people will run... has anyone done it? There hasn't been a snigle reported example of someone doing a runner because their car will get impounded or crushed.

08-07-11, 20:08 GMT+10#45 yer but with the new laws it will start just fink about it, just say secound offence 3 mounths that about 15g impound fee if your car is work 10g is it worth pulling over, and 2nd offence your mostly likely to loose your licence for a year at least, so people will pick the decision of pulling a runner

08-07-11, 21:13 GMT+10#46 Progmh: do u honestly think the cops, aca or even the radio are gonna report that the police got into a high speed pursuit and the culprit got away? U only ever hear bout the 1s that got caught. That way it shows the general public all these new hoon laws are working.
I say give us a revenue to play. That is open every weekend n doesn't matter wat the weather is doin. I would b happy to pay 30-50 buks for a couple of hrs of fun In my car wit no cop trouble n I would say that we all would.

exactly right Brett
and for years now people randomly claimed various new laws would for no logical reason cause an increase in the numbers of those 'running'.
Where's your proof of this people, or is it a guess?

I think you mean venue
imagine the legal minefield your proposal would entail
someone hits someone elses car or just comes close....fights break out.......who would pay for, maintain and supervise this venue?
plus it would be bogans at 100 paces there, hundreds of yobbos watching for free while a few MIGHT pay to take their cars

Yeah ok there is some pro's n con's but I'm sure you could figure out some rules n regulations n if u don't obey well u get banned or something. But I think it would really help getting the so called hoon's off the road.

08-07-11, 23:56 GMT+10#50 The way I see it people are going to do this kind of stuff on the street regardless. I think if there's a venue open every week and you're caught on the street then there's no excuse - you've been given a place to do it but you've ignored it. It's unfortunate that there isn't somewhere to go and do this kind of thing.
Skating was a massive problem, they get skate parks. Graffiti is still a huge problem but there's places you can go and do it legally. There's even ****ing safe and legal injecting rooms for junkies to shoot up an illegal drug that they most likely robbed someone to pay for... You'd think logically that there would think there would be a place to race and do burnouts quite often in a safe environment - Saying you're going to stop it is like saying you're going to stop people smoking - it wont happen.

09-07-11, 15:29 GMT+10#51 You can't stop it, but at least you can give the people willing to do the right thing a chance and a place to do things legally and at least these tough new laws would make some sense. Then we would have a place to go to and if you don't and do it on the street and get caught well that's your own problem then, you cant complain anymore that there is no where to take your car and have fun with it. Right now even the people that want to do the right thing have no where to do it so most (not all) take it to the street and industrial areas.

I know several people who have done the runner to avoid getting done by the hoon laws. Some got away, some got caught. Either way the motive was to avoid having their car or bike taken off them.
Don't be ignorant.

it's never been legal to do burnouts/race etc on public roads
when you obtain a licence you agree to abide by various conditions/laws, not unduly harsh ones either
it's not as though some basic and important right has been taken away from you by these "tough" (that's your term not mine) new laws
if a person can't find something else to do than that then their overall right and suitability to be a driver on public roads should come into question imho

10-07-11, 16:05 GMT+10#54 I never mentioned burnouts being legal on the streets!?! sorry if i worded **** badly and you miss understood me but what i was trying to say is build a ****ing racetrack for the S.E and give the people who want to do the right thing a chance, and those who continue to do stupid **** on public roads and get caught cant cry about how its not fair anymore.
And having a race track would in MY OPINION make some sense with these tough new laws but the fact we don't have one and they keep making the laws tougher and tougher is plain stupid as people will resort to more extreme measures.....

I never said you claimed burnouts were ever legal
re race track etc nothing will satisfy some, the next complaint would be that it's too far away or too expensive or not open 24/7
the simple fact is that there's already no excuse for that on public roads, 99.9% of the population isn't interested in doing them and wants drivers who do them and similar off the road

11-07-11, 15:53 GMT+10#59 im with forza on this one, but also 50/50 on some of the arguments with these hoon laws.
these days im more aware of the consequences & have a family to worry about so i wouldnt even consider doing a runner, but back in my younger days i would have lost count the amount of times i had done a runner and got away as im sure a lot of people on here would have i could personally name a few on here that ive seen do runners lol, and this was prior to hoon laws.
If i was 18 again and these laws were in place id hate to see where i would have ended up.....either dead or in jail because there is no chance i would have let them take my pride and joy.
The laws have gone to far IMO - including falling asleep at the wheel, driving suspended etc under the hoon laws is a revenue raising load of ****, ffs put a decent shift kit in your car and its going to chirp 2nd gear in front of the wrong cop (theres probably a handful of cops in melbourne that would let you off) causing you to lose your car for a month, loss of license, not to mention fines, tow & impound fees.
All that said, i still dont beleive building a racetrack would make any difference at all to what happens on the streets, you will still get all the whingers saying its to far, or to expensive, or you dont get enough track time etc nothing will change that, its just easier to fill the tank and hit up princess hwy, it gets me how people who have tipped 30-40-50k+ into there car to get it to where its at, but cant afford the Trailer hire, a bit of petrol and a few dollars to get into heathcote/calder park
The way i look at it, you have springnats/easternats/summernats, autofest, powercruise, gazzanats etc numerous track days at winton, heathcote, and calder park over the year, go out and enter and enjoy these events a bit of travel never hurt anyone especially if your such a car enthusiast (might cost a bit but probably cost less to enter them all than 1 impound would these days and at least you keep your car), and keep the streets for cruising, the way its going and well all be driving smart cars soon as v6's will be considered high powered soon enough!!
im not painting myself as an angel as ive had my fair share of **** ups on the road over the years, ive probably got a longer rap sheet than a lot of people on here lol, but with the laws the way they are these days i keep it for the track or give my cars the occasional squirt here and there up to the speed limit of course while on the open road, advantage of living in the country!
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

11-07-11, 16:18 GMT+10#60 I believe, in short, if the government tackled this 'issue', by supporting local tracks to open several days per month, and held small events, or track days, with the support of local business, there would be less of this on the street.
As for being open 24/7, as far as i know, it happens in japan, so why would it be a bad idea here? and if its a high cost to do so, introduce an annual membership. i personally would be more encouraged to buy one, if it was made available to me.
