25-01-11, 17:07 GMT+10#41 You running a thermostat? If so take it out & see how it goes...
or
Maybe your thermostat is too higher temperature rating?

25-01-11, 17:57 GMT+10#43 Hang in there mate, everone goes through it.I've spit the dummy more times than i care to remember.
When did the heating issues start....after the upgraded stall or auto conversion?
are you running an auto radiator with trans built in or seperate trans cooler?
is the dash gauge reading correctly? how hot is it actually, maybe test the block with a laser thermo.
have you got thermos and a shroud?
Im not trying to tell you how to suck eggs, just been through all before dude!

it started after the new trans was fitted aswell as the stall was done at the same time. i know its the stall but i just dont get how you see all hese cars running a higher stall than mine and they drive around no problem at all. its running a 3 core radiator which was recored 2500kms ago aparently its a race core has closer together fins or something and yeah running a seperate oil cooler for the trans. ive just done away with the factory gauge as i thought it could be the problem but still runs hot on the new gauge

25-01-11, 18:34 GMT+10#45 Did you sort out the problem you had awhile back with the trans fluid level?
Google tells me (hopefully true) a higher stall will create more heat...but that shouldnt affect the engine if youve got a separate trans cooler
Unless the engine is working too hard to get the car moving, in which case the high-stall might be too high?
As you say others get away with a higher converters so you should be able to aswell
On the bright side, do you still have the 30e manual box?
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

25-01-11, 18:41 GMT+10#46 where did you mount the trans cooler is it front of the radiator is it restricting the air flow, maybe use seperate electric fan mounted off to the side, are you still using the standard fan and shroud or after market standard one hard to beat, got sucked in before by using a so called high performance fan, show us some photos maybe able to spot something obvious,is trans loading up motor or sounds good no strain before it moves off

the trans cooler is off to the side of the intercooler just sits behind the bumper so is not restricting air flow i was running an electric fan and have made sure its the right way round and has good voltage to it. i have just removed the electric fan and fitted the standard viscus fan and shroud. just tested it was working better then i gave it a little blast and it got to hot again

it gets up to around the 100 degree celsius mark and then the starts to leak out the radiator cap
it slips real bad when started up from cold and as it warms up it gets more drive . i think the stall is a bit higher than the 3000rpm mark but havent really had a chance to find out for sure but yeah its prety hard to drive theres no drive untill after the 3000 rpm mark or around there and due to this means it has to be given more throtle to drive therefore creating more heat. im prety sure the stall is the problem as the cooling problems only started since the new trans was fitted. anyway tomorrow i will be speaking to the guy that made the converter and see how fast he can make a standard one so i can still make it for the drags if not the unortunately im out

26-01-11, 17:06 GMT+10#49 ok just afew thoughts, how hot is the trans oil going through, is the heat drawn off going through radiator?are you sure cooling system is bled, have had a case where the water pump was pumping the coolant to fast through the radiator not allowing it to lose enough heat had to slow the pump down which also improved the agitation effect, have you changed the cooling system near the adapter plate area, heater hoses or something similar maybe bypassing within the motor instead of being pumped to the radiator, sorry just some thoughts going through my head feel for ya man hopefully something simple, problem sounds similar to doing a burnout heaps of revs but not moving far which if you were ,car would more than likely be cruizing say a 100kms/hr heaps of air going through radiator, does the transmission people have any thoughts

cheers man
not sure how hot trans oil is havent got the gauge working on that just yet and yeah the oil cooler is completely seperate to the radiator so has nothing to do with it.havent had a thermo gun on it yet to check temperatures . as for the adaptor plate area nothing has changed there and it was already running no heater before the trans went in and was fine. i know going to the standard converter is going to suck as wont be able to launch any more but at the end of the day if its the only thing that will bring temperatures back to normal then im gana give it a go. ill still have the 3000 stall as well as get another one made as standard so at least once i find a way to cool it down then can change it back to the 3000 stall .

26-01-11, 18:15 GMT+10#51 how much oil did trans end up taking should be something like 10 litres or so motor at idle,in park,

26-01-11, 19:18 GMT+10#52 I've just done a quick search on google, as I know nothing about autos etc, been reading about something called a lock-up clutch, which I think prevent slipping (which in turn prevents overheating), wiki says it mechanically links the impeller and turbine for cruising speeds, and unlocks when you put your foot to the floor quickly for fast acceleration, do you have that in your trans?
So maybe the speed of the engine from having to rev it up to 3k whenever you want to move - is causing the engine to overheat. And getting a lock-up thingy will allow you to drive it normal for normal road use, but also allow you to punch your foot down to make full use of the 3000rpm stall for at the drags/skids etc?? Just an idea, like I said, I don't know an awful lot about autos.

27-01-11, 16:57 GMT+10#53 ive pulled the trans out tonight and the new converter should be ready to pick up tomorrow afternoon so all going to plan should be able to put it all back together tomorrow night. finally found some decent info last night on hi stall converters bit confusing reading it but anyway from what me and my brother can gather the stall is to high for the car , with so many different factors to take into account it makes it very hard to work out the ideal stall converter.so yeah hopefully cooling should be fine with the new converter in with not that much slipage

30-01-11, 15:43 GMT+10#58 hey guys after finally getting it all back together it was only driven once before it was put onto the trailer and driven to the nationals .i managed a best of 13.015 at 103.65miles an hour.im prety happy with that considering the lack of time behind the wheel it would of been nice to drop into the 12s but ohwell will have to wait untill next time.the track was in good condition but unfortunately the engine was letting the car down. it felt like it had heaps left in it but was restricted as still being on the run in tune and running into detonation / overfueling problems not too sure havent been able to work out what was happening just yet. never had the foot flat down at all but was finding i had to ease off the throtle to stop it detonateing and hold it at around 5000rpm but all and all a awesome day its given me a few things to work on and once its all sorted im prety confident it will go alot quicker
