A good mate of mine years ago used to own a 98 wrx auto club spec sedan, the little bugger went like a cut snake and ran 12s if memory serves me in full street trim, this was when 12s were highly respectable. It was fitted with a turbo back 3 inch exhaust system, aps cold air intake and top mount thick intercooler with a VF22 STi turbo on about 17-18 pound boost and injectors of some sort but could have very well been STi injectors. I do remember when he put the VF22 it was laggy as all hell till about 3000 rpm and then it was off like a rocket. He soon fixed this by fitting a 3000-3200 hi stall converter with lockup and transmission cooler. After a bit of initial mucking around gettin the converter all sorted and working well, then man oh man i thought wrx auto's were slow but god damn when he stalled this thing up and had like 10-12 psi off the line it just bolted and went like a cut snake but still drove like a stock factory thing when driving normally. Definately changed my perception of wrx's and auto ones at that, he never ever had auto problems, never broke driveshafts or diffs which i put down to it being auto and was reliable as all hell up until he sold it and he gave it **** like theres no tomorrow.

My Legacys got the same box as bug eye WRX onwards I beleive Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im with jet r31 on this one get a ss ute, extractors, full exhaust, otr, tune and even slot a cam in and wat a weapon, as for the rex's leave them for hairdressers to buy i think there gay, my parents have had two 02/05 models dont really do much for me, but thats my 2 cents ;]

If you don't want too blow a box or clutch in a wrx don't mistreat it... It's simple really!! No launches and no flatchanging!! These 2 things are the reason most D##$head Wrx owners break gearboxes all the time!! You can still take off for a race without doing a limiter launch just takes some getting used too. My Rexxy will **** all over a vy ss ute with Cai and exhaust etc... and i'm only making 187kw.. I've owned a fairly modded vx ss 6 speed and the rex is just as roomy i reckon!!

This is where you lost me, look at the actual size difference between both cars, the Commodore would be 20-30% bigger

Hahahaha. No way can you compare a WRX and a VX for interior space. It's like comparing a jetski to the fucken QE2.

That's kind of like saying you don't like Commodores because you went for a blat in an SV6 and it didn't do much for you. The difference between a stock WRX and a lightly modified STI of the same year is night and day

Not that this really matters but.. My barge ass VX with a reasnable suspension setup is about 1.5secs a lap quicker than a stock bugeye WRX around my hillclimb circuit at home. The WRX adjustable Teins/boost 200-220awkw where about a 1.0 second in front of me. Stock newer EVO's where on par with the modified bugeyes

Theres a massive difference with the JDM ones, but I think you guys get the watered down STIs?

Well there was a smattering of both, the stock STI where on par, faster corner speed but less punch than my SS in a straight line. The stockish WRX was pretty piss poor. Then again those guys had too large a rims and had gone for hektic look more so than I just want to go fast look. Soon as they stuck some light weight rims and semi-slicks they picked up 1 sec a lap. Suspension mods gained them probably less tyre wear and another .5 to .75 a lap. Boost increase gained them another .5 sec kinda deal. The STI's where mostly stockish bar race rims/semi slicks, these where about .5 to 1 sec quicker than me. The stock STI on street rubber where roughly around the same times. The fasted car was a datto with an SR20 in it It was 7 or 8 seconds faster than me. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I agree that stockish WRX's are piss poor You would do better with a couple of turbo's bolted to your stock VX Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

it was hard enough trying to balance 450hp 1700kgs of car and rwd.. its on Youtube, I spend 90% of the time sideways. Last lap of the day I gave it everything I had and was right on the edge and ended up on the last off camber right hander looping it and going over the line backwards. I was nothing if not entertaining. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Link it up...

Sounds like fun, post the link! A bug eye STI should make around 240awkw with only a full exhaust and tune. That should be enough to mash most Commodore owners, I don't know why people bag them so much?
