04-06-10, 09:57 GMT+10#41 well until then, it all seems like a waste of time and money....there will always be ways around the law and e85 is the solution for the time being.....go petrol is say!!!!!!!!

04-06-10, 10:28 GMT+10#42 Nothing wrong with LPG, just most people dont have the time/effort it work it otu 100%. always will be flaws with LPG but also flaws with petrol too. nothings perfect. things break, things wear out, things deteriorate. cant help that unless u wanna change everything back to 100% brand new everytime u drive it?

04-06-10, 14:09 GMT+10#43 It sounds like no one has figured it out 100% if backfires are common and acceptable. There are those that stick to the norm, those that try something new - so as long as something is developed and benefits the end user I say go for it.....then there are the copiers, they just have no f**king idea.
So what precautions do you have in place on your car?

Hey I will be the first to admit me and lpg don't know each other well (I hate greenies lol) especially when there are fuels like E85 available maybe not as readily or cheaply, but it just comes back to my point about fixing the problem, not the outcome.
Paul what measures do you have to save yourself a split plenum, or whatever, incase of a backfire.
I would personally hate to be driving around in a car that may backfire and cost me any number of parts and dollars every 50 km's....talk about paranoia. Ok I know the EPA and dollar saving is a big driver to convert to lpg but really what other advantage is there? It certainly doesn't perform any better compared to petrol and performance is really what everyone is about, regardless of street, strip or track?
it does perform better than petrol, it has a 107-112 octane rating, you can run propane off the pump, meaning you can run more timing
E85 has 107 and is only a fairly new fuel only 2 pumps in vic that i know of

04-06-10, 16:20 GMT+10#45 TO be honest im pretty lucky my car hasnt backfired much, maybe 4-5 backfires over 10 years isnt too bad, mainly cos i used the wrong plugs once which causes a massive range of problems due to that stupid mistake :P

05-06-10, 08:29 GMT+10#46 it may be better in theory, but there are no cars out there which prove this
so apart from putting the right plugs in, which let's face isn't all that hard, what stops your car from backfiring? and in those 4-5 cases which it has, apart from a f'ed front bar, what else has happened? now don't hold back....

05-06-10, 17:28 GMT+10#47 like i said i changed the plugs and putt eh wrong ones in which caused a whole range of issues small **** happens when the car backfires once and will keep backfiring till everythings 100%
So basically as soon as the car backfires everything needs to be checked over very carefully which is what i didnt do. things like bent butterfly on the caby etc...

Have u forgotten about jason's XE that went 9.9? I think thats a pretty decent number and im sure it will go a lot faster too when he pulls his finger out and actually starts touching it again
Yeh I realise no LPG VL's have gone really fast, i mean 10's isnt anything major these days but then again im not complaining considering my bottom end is 10 years old and only has stock rods lol im sure with a good bottom end and some proper boost it would see decent numbers

05-06-10, 21:50 GMT+10#48 seems like you dont want to answer the question, I have asked it twice now. I am not having a go, just curios what precaustions you or your mechanic are taking?
10's is definately nothing to sneeze, just look at the ad's for 10sec "potential" cars, it shows it is no mean feat.
no I haven't forgotten about the 9.9, but that was a long time ago and from what I have seen, just the once (I am happy to be corrected)....has it hit a development brick wall....is there something stopping it from going faster....is the hardware simply not designed for the performance market? again, I am not having a go, I would just like to understand what is actually happening.
there aren't exactly a bunch of workshops getting into the lpg stuff some sharing of info should be forthcoming and a benefit to the select few who choose this path.

dude, i wouldnt have a clue whats done from an LPG point of view, i dont know much about it to be honest jason does all that stuff, i dont ask questions im just a dumb I.T. nerd
It hasnt hit a brick wall, his car hasnt been touched in a long time. He has has other priorities from what iv seen. anyway not my place to discuss as its not my car...
But why would someone spend there time doing R+D and then post it all over the net for people to copy? I sure as hell wouldnt if it was my business!

Fair enough, at least your honest and that has to be admired.
Let's not talk about my business and its R&D, but I will say this. As soon as I have a new product which has been designed and I believe will perform as expected and meet or exceed customer expectations, then it put it out there for all (hopefully prospsective customers) to see...if you don't, why are you in business? Yes there are secrets but as soon as a customer gets theirs hands on it, that can go out the window and that's why good product with the background and development costs more than just something that has been slapped together.
We don't have to look to far that to see the copies or imitations, but these never produce the same results or have the development, if any, behind them...we all know who I am speaking about, and the end products speaks for itself.
Graeme there isn't much more too it...it's not all that complicated and it's a proven performer.

07-06-10, 21:18 GMT+10#55 Graeme - Just spoke to jason and he said he is more then happy to make u a plenum, just ring him and buy it and pay, no ****ing around. You know how he is, straight to the point strickly business...

08-06-10, 00:38 GMT+10#56 Graeme tells me there is more to the story than that, but anyway, the end decision is his.....as I have harped on about lately, as long as Graeme (the customer) is happy and gets what he wants and the product performs over and above expectations, then whoever provides the product have done their job well

08-06-10, 13:35 GMT+10#57 the thing with the backfire discussion is there is so many variables that can cause them...
the fact of the matter is they happen because gas is in vapour form filling a whole plenum.
if you somehow managed to get petrol in the same form and situation, it would be no different.
vapour and liquid injection are the step forward in regards to eliminating that issue.
having LPG in vapour form in a plenum is asking for trouble no matter which way you look at it.

Hey mate, I made my intake to take the big LPG backfire and has seen a few massive ones. Its made from 8mm mild steel plate and 150mm round tube. The 8mm plate bolts to na runners and has bellmouths machiened into it. The 150mm dia tube was cut in half and welded to the plate. Its cut co clear the booster and is fronted with a short section of 3" mandril bend and xf T/b. Has one large vacume port that goes to a vacume manifold that has a cheak valve installed. I use a Holset HX40 at 28psi, And yes it backfired at that boost when i was tuning with no probs except for the cooler pipe dinting the inner guard. If you want any pics PM me your email.
