My thoughts and prayers to all involved but how many people need to die before things change...? As sad as this all is, and my condolenses go to the families of those involved, you're just shifting the blame. There are thousands of people across Victoria, with cars much much more powerful than this, who dont go out and kill themselves, with or without a racetrack or venue. It's no good shifting the blame to the government, what do you want, a cotton wool state? Their response will be an even harsher clampdown on the vehicles that can be driven, and how they can be driven. Driving a car fast and hard isnt a right, it's a privelage. One that should be kept for when you can find yourself the means to get to the proper location, not for when you think "That damn government not providing the venue, i know, i'll do it here, this looks safe enough" It comes down to the drivers skill level. Him thinking he had more than he actually did, to be travelling at those speeds. Also, that article posted by OMIZVL is quite disjointed, have parts been cut out of it?

I was just told tonight that aparantly one of the drivers friends was caught doing similarly excessive speed since the incident. I too have heard about the driver, via people that knew him. After having seen first hand via SES rescue, as well as living in a high crash risk area, having been trained to drive to survive both in school and by many old truckers, there really is no excuse. That part of the road is straight and smooth enough not to unsettle the car. im just glad there werent any other vehicles involved.

The racetrack comment is pointless, because AFAIK he wasn't even a car enthusiast that would visit a track, let alone drive on one?

Agreed, people need to use their head. If the feel the need to drive fast, and don't have a racetrack, you simply don't drive fast. Or you wait, and you make a day or holiday out of it, you guys down south have it pretty easy with tracks, there's talk of no tracks here and there. But in reality you have a hell of a lot more then other parts of Australia that aren't as lucky on that front. I know that if I want to go to a strip, I have to drive about 4-5 hours return trip. Which is why it isn't worth it for me. And if I want to go to an actual track I have to drive a hell of a lot more. It's time to grow up and stop making excuses for breaking the law.

I heard on the news before some more rubbish by politicians to appear as though they're doing something. One suggested crushing cars again and also speed limiting hoon offenders. Wouldn't have done anything in this situation.

what the government fail to realise is impounding cars, crushing cars, increasing fine amounts is not going to do anything crashes like this would be spur of the moment decisions by the driver, as has already been said kids need to be educated from a young age about road safety

Lot of talk about this atm of course, plenty of media. Instead of the words crush impound etc. Why don't they try convey the 'No'. As in don't get in the car with someone whom you know will drive in a stupid manner. Crushing cars wont stop anyone getting another.

Still feel sorry for the passengers and parents but - Unregistered, Speeding, Overcroweded, Passenger restrictions, Multiple Speeding Fines, and OVER 4 TIMES FOR A FULL DRIVER PASSENGER....
