13-03-11, 13:36 GMT+10#43 Just had ours done again as part of the two yearly process,It has gone up by 10 dollars a year for the insurance,But saying that the value of the car has gone up(not sure why)But it is an agreed value which they have to pay out on,We got 3 values(2 from NZ and 1 from Aussie)So now I pay 158 dollars a year.Which as far as I am concerned it quite cheap.

13-03-11, 14:51 GMT+10#45 The cheapest car insurance I have found so far is with these guys:
http://www.cliccarinsurance.co.nz/
unfortunately they are not taking on new business at the mo as their premises were damaged in the CHCH quake. Bugger. Significantly cheaper premiums than both ClubAuto and NAC, but excess is higher...

13-03-11, 16:18 GMT+10#46 I gave photos and in one case they came around and assesed the car in person,I also signed papers to say all back to original, that was easy as I have the HDT papers to prove this.part of the deal is to have it GPS tracked which I have had.So again a very easy process. This is with AMI under their classic insurance.
Cheers Marty
ps their excess is $100 dollars.

13-03-11, 16:36 GMT+10#48 One company that refused to insure me quoted the Redbook value for a VL. Can't remember exactly what it was, but $1600 rings a bell. Choice.

I just arranged cover with NAC, because CLIC told me that they wont insure it if it hasnt got a wof (but i still want theft cover while its sitting in the driveway), NAC didnt ask about a wof so i didn't tell them lol. i think its dumb if you need a wof to get insurance in your driveway, its not moving anywhere!
Told them car was worth $12,000 - the premium with NAC is huge - $1553/year ($129 a month!), $1200 excess, $1200 theft excess, they even say 'windscreen extension included but its a $150 excess!??
CLIC quoted $986/year (probably around $85/month), excess is $1200 but theft excess is $2000 which is a heck of a lot.
So it's either spend $560 more a year on premium, or risk having to pay an extra $800 on excess IF the car gets stolen (which unfortunately is very possible).

22-03-11, 17:24 GMT+10#51 When you actually break down the policies and pay outs, they're all sh1t. NAC only cover paint jobs up to $3000 from memory. I asked the chick where I could get a $3000 paint job... All the companies have separate excesses for things like wheels and tyres etc but the maximum payouts are quite low. Be careful about the WOF, they can be w4nkers about things like that.
I've decided to got the opposite way, and go for CLIC, over two years you've saved more than the difference in premiums. Yes it's a risk, but I'm going to make very sure my car is well secured.

22-03-11, 19:27 GMT+10#52 Yea she said 'if' my paint job is worth more than $1k yes $1k!, then i should get the paint job 'valued' and have to insure that seperately.
