Just a quick auto question. How strong is the skyline r33 auto box?

they are meant to be pretty stong i heard around 300rwkw with a modified valvebody as this mod makes them a lot stonger, shifts harder and takes the heat away due to no/reduced slip when engaging gears.. only prob is u have to use the transmission computer to run them but im sure u can get a controller box for them... mv automatics r d best ppl to speak to.. suprised more ppl havent looked into this as most ppl give the autos away!!!

I still wouldn't trust a Jatco

cant beat a jatco for a good street/strip transmission... faultlessly cruise around every day with one, take it to the track, drive it back home, everyday.. they're good boxes...

Everybody would be sticking to them if they were cheaper, but like many a member on here would know, money doesnt grow on trees hey.. Most people would be happy to buy the best 'cheapest' option, and spend the same amout over again when it ****s out... Obviously, there is a reason people go glide once they think they've outdone the power handling capability of a jatco, as like all things they have their limits, but for plenty of cars on here, if u had a crack in one, I cant imagine why u'd go anything else.. My keas 3 speed is ***in sweet.. Quote: I still wouldn't trust a Jatco Why ? I can think of heaps and heaps vl's using these boxes, running 9's and 10's...consistantly... What's not to trust ?

I would trust a jatco more than I would trust a trimatic. Just the price is a killer.

Also, james sera ran a trimatic and ran consistantly around the 144mph mark with it, and CGMFLY runs an ole triamtic aswell.

Fastest RB30 in the world has a TH400 in it. No one in Aus has been game enough to try one. Go the TH400, that's what I will be doing.

I'm prety tempted to try one aswell, more because they are cheaper than any other reason, but I'd love to know exactly how large the power drain is and also what tunnel mods are required to fit one.

Zero mods when attached to a v8, slot straight in, not even a tap with a hammer. anynone know if the 6 sits any further back than the 8 in a vl?

I dont know why u'd use a TH400 for a rb30, it's a really big heavy box thats gonna use a lot of power, top gear is still 1:1 same as a glide and if you have enough power to warrant a th400 or a glide then anything below top gear is useless anyway.

Because I'm a tightarse and don't want to spend $5500 on a glide! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Bah, at the track? or on the street with drag radials on and a few ppl in the car, you're gonna take off in top... LOL not likely.

LOL You'd use one at the track if you were chasing numbers. Not sure what plans everyone else has with one though. The fastest RB30 in the world has a TH400 in it. So I don't know why you wouldn't use a TH400 behind an RB30, someone else was the pioneer and has now seen the light.

There's nothing wrong with a th400, but price range isn't much of a difference between th400 and trimatic. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

My mate rang Hugo's the other day, $4300 for a 1000hp glide not including converter, which was like another $1300-1500.
