03-07-09, 16:19 GMT+10#41 this is really unique.
And dont underestimate the power of the t3 lol
One member on here i think, ran a 10.007 with a t3 on 31 psi, and made 385rwkw.
And/Or a 10.9 with a t3 highflow on 22 psi, cant remember exactly.
Nice conversion anyway haha

06-07-09, 23:28 GMT+10#43 Vp-luke used a r31 speedo sensor and set the divide signal wire on the cluster to get the speedo right mate
I have a vn calais getting the same Treatment. Afaik it is legal to do rb30 from vn-vr. VS the emission laws changed hence why the ecotec was introduced. So i dont think it will pass engineers unless you went rb25/6 as they come under same emissions. good luck with it mate it is defentily way easier and cheaper to turbo an rb30

07-07-09, 18:24 GMT+10#44 did u run into any probs with firewall? as teh V engine is shorter then the straight

07-07-09, 18:28 GMT+10#45 no problems with firewall remember the vn was design and tested around vl running gear. The first vn test mule had an rb30 and vn might have had rb30 if it wasnt for a bad aussie dollar. Anywya vb-vs are all basically the same chassis with different bodies and minor changes along the way

07-07-09, 20:33 GMT+10#47 Yeah Pretty much besides abs vr/vs had a revised front suspension vb-vp front suspension is the same

was great fun driving it around on friday night, the reaction you would get when people around would hear a bonnet load of angry pigeons was rather 'lol'
talking to my mate next to me, recons you had your bottom end built up for some serious power recently? got any thumbs up as to where i should get mine tuned? just been down to rajab he recons $150ph but couldnt really give me an idea as to how long it may take to tune. Cars running nistune software.
Thats no good mate - head gaskets are always the ****ing pain. I had my VL boosting on 14psi on the gasket in there fine. The old t3 still puts the wind up an rb. Injectors and a gt35/40 would be great for a 250rwkw.
HAHAHA - im sure pulling a few tough ones - half the guys on the street wouldnt know what to make of the rampaging pigeons ... I have to see this car now. It would be nothing short of awesome to have to dose full noise up sturtie.
yea just had a good whack of money put into new bottom end, new head (nice way to blow a 1k), new breaks, fresh 4 speed jacto w/ 3g stall (thanks morgz) Ive been told racetec in kirkpatrick drive do a good tune. Im gonna give them a try once the blocks in - just to see what the local guys can do. would rather keep my money local then in melb (dont get me wrong, love the city fellas) And my understanding is they could do a good tune for you mate.
Best of luck getting the angry pigeons .... angry ... again

only difference in chassis between vl and vn is the k frame.

Mind you - all of that crap realllly goes out the window as soon as you slap a dirty big turbo on the side of the motor - legal in the first place or not, you're still going to the EPA when you get pulled up!
So just make sure you have a contingency plan when that happens - i.e. a stock motor on standby.
There's a performance place near Newcastle (I won't mention their name) who does that mainly with rotaries , they know that the engine won't pass emissions with a turbo bolted to it so they tune & run the engine as an N/A , certify it then bolt the turbo to the engine then retune it , so it "technically" passes the emissions test.
Just another loophole in the law , it's a bit like how they say aftermarket ECU's are illegal and don't comply with ADR's because they can be altered , Steven Davies who was on Performance Forums fitted an RB30DE into his Zed a few years back which ran a Delco ECU which was reprogrammable, he said the ECU only had to "look like" it came out of that car and was able to be engineered.
It's probably why I saw an article a while back where they had a VLT with the aftermarket ECU tucked underneath the passenger seat, but the standard unit was still controlling only the idle speed & fuel pump , it was to keep the car looking standard.
I got around it in the VL because they came factory fitted with an RB30, even though I run an RB25 ECU , pistons , head & camshafts in that block.

01-09-09, 10:20 GMT+10#53 pretty interesting conversion there
as for it being heavier (correct me if im wrong),
the vs weighs 1350kg
a vl calais weighs 1350kg

02-09-09, 12:04 GMT+10#54 Cool conversion mate. I have put a 25 into my VS, I am racing to finish now I hope.

03-09-09, 22:22 GMT+10#55 I am not sure how different the 25 looms ect are to the 30, but I have isolated the speedo wire and am going to try tap that into the dash speedo input wire and see what happens. I guess if I get a signal I will be happy and go for a recalibration. But my GPS unit has a speedo in it.....

27-12-10, 19:43 GMT+10#56 Digging up an old thread but I have put an RB30et in my vr. I am hoping to get it engineered with me modifications. I haven't got the speedo to work yet ad I have found that the r33 speedo drive is an ac signal and the vr cluster needs a dc signal but even fitting a rectifier I couldn't get it going. Anyone else have any luck?

I've done it again since, this time rb25/30 into a vs ute. Stock diff gears are way too tall although the engine develops enough torque to pull well below 2000rpm with the 3.08 gears and the r33 5 speed you're sitting on 75km/h 3500rpm in 2nd.
Havn't had any luck with the speedo yet, i personally use an old iphone 3 with a gps app loaded on. Please send me a pm if you work it out.

If anyone wants information on the conversion nows the time to ask while its still fresh in my head.

10-03-17, 09:20 GMT+10#59 Can't you run the speedo via the ABS sensors as inputs?
I'll probably do something similar in my VS, as the glide doesn't have a speedo output.
