Does the HSV build tag actually say "GRP A SS"???

I doubt it says that. Re: post 36 "it isnt a ss group a wagon, it is a sv le group a" Not sure what the tag would say but definitely not GRP A SS. Nice wags too.

I would say its more of a VN SV LE wagon, with VN Group A motor/bodykit/wheels. I don't think it's a Group A at all. Group A's were made for one reason... Group A Homologation. It's like the Wayne Gardiner Racing (WGR) Group A's that were made. Not the same Group A as the 4 that were made by HDT/HSV for Group A racing. Don't take me as putting the car down at all though... Not my intention at all. It's a rare car!

I guess we'll all know what it is exactly when the owner gets around to digging up the papers and scanning them up for us to see. That will stop all guessing. Used to see an LE wagon getting around Newy a few years back, same colour (guess they only came in one colour), looked very nice. Just trying to recall now as it's been ages since I last saw it, but I do believe it had the GRP A SS wheels on it.

Group A Homologation. You have just stated the obvious. He has checked with Holden and they have confirmed it is a genuine SVLE wagon one off with group A motor and kit. The build tags will say SVLE. All the SVLE wagons were auto the sedans were manual and i think there were 110 sedans. I'm a previous owner of a SVLE sedan build number 013. that is the only pic i have of the build plate. That car was cursed Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

There are a number of ex 'managers specials' getting around with similar mods to this one, not vn sv wagons as such, but cars with engines that weren't optionable by a normal buyer, if this was one, would that make it genuine or non genuine in the eyes of you guys? build number would show its number in relation to all other sv le wagons but may be the only one optioned with the engine.

The one that was in street commodores was just an svle wagon it didn't have anything group a in it.

i think you've got an awesome car there mate. Having all the right hardware in an already rare car certainly makes it collectable for all the right reasons.. veeELL hit the nail on the head with Bill Burkes XW 429 comment, no one would of believed it. I'm sure HSV would have snuck a few of these types of cars out during their early days. And why not. All the parts were readily available to them (all parts bin items) so its not like they were reinventing the wheel, they just didn't tell anyone about them. Look at Brad Dunstan years ago (ex HSV engineer). Had a VX Clubsport with a 6.2L V8 in it. Stroker done inhouse, so infact its a factory VX 6.2L clubsport. Wasnt an option but HSV still built it All in all, great find and hope you have alot of fun with it. looks great

How am I stating the obvious, when the guy that owns it, plus multiple others in this thread, refer it as an SV LE Group A wagon? Quote: Originally Posted by BOB18U You have just stated the obvious. If the build plate reflected what the car had I'd consider it genuine.

Wrong mate. SVLE's were released in 91. They were all 89-90 berlina's up spec'd by hsv to sv89 spec. Basically they were all dealer cars that weren't sold so hsv touched them up and sold them. Apparently they had a back order for sv89's and used these to supplement it. I wish I had the papers still but I lost them in my move early last year. To add more to that. All SVLE's vin plates will read 89 and the hsv build plate will read 91. They were all first registered in 91.

The SV LE were first released in August 1989 with sedans completed in September 1989 and the last of the wagons was finished off in January 1990. They were built to fill some of the demand for the SV89 that had sold out after having finished its production run of 200 cars in July 1989. Your HSV build plate date is listed as September 89. Corsa

Mint wagon mate... I hope it is the real deal coz that would be wicked to know that there is actally one of these getting around. It would be good to see more pics. Does it run the bigger rear brakes aswell that came out on the group A's. Also whats the rear bar look like??, does it have the hsv dash?? Great car mate

The fact that he's trying to sell it for $18k is evidence enough for me that its just an LE with some Group A goodies and not in fact the Group A Wagon he says it is http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=155870

But I do doubt these things were put on a car a year before the Group A was even released. That makes no sense what so ever. Especially since it wasnt a profitable car, it actually cost HSV. People aren't posers because they question someones claim to have an original factory "Group A" SV LE Wagon, they are just curious to see the "proof" that the owner says he has. I have had several rare cars myself, one was an SV5000 built in January 1990 with a ZF 6 speed. I was originally told it was factory which would have put my car ahead of the Group A in having a 6 speed. But later discovered it was put in when the car was new by a Holden Dealer for a customer which was sold months after the Jan 1990 build date. So my car wasnt rare, it just had a wealthy customer willing to spend money ex-factory

My Old man has the Sedan, Marenello Red (not sure how to spell it) SV LE 89 #092 of 110, Trying to find the Orig boot wing, bars and stickers are turning out to be harder then he expected, The only distinctive part of the car apart from the body-kit, badging, and the Walkinshaw wheels was under the airbox has a cutout for the airbox to sit in so air goes up under the guard and into the box not just from the front behind the left headlight. This never came with any Group A options or Features, (would be awesome if it did but) Hoenstly who would knock back a car with Group A Throttles, i know i wouldnt, yer it may not be orig 100% but common you have orig VN Group A TTB's on your car, thats something every Man/Lady wants for there VN 5ie's........... or any 5ie infact....
