Im confussed as all fuck because they are doing it totally backwards to NSW where, green P = new driver and red P = older driver...
I dont want to fiddle and fuck around getting green P's if its going be 'bizzaro world'...
gday in NSW they have red Ps for a year then green Ps for 2 years so they r doing it the same as NSW

Not true - you'll notice that this new licensing system VicRoads is introducing includes P1 (one year of green Ps) and P2 (three years of red Ps). So its going to be a four year probationary license instead of three.

They can drive on freeways, but they must obey the speed limits set by their license. Visit NSW, see how annoyed you get when you're stuck behind one.

Will there be restriction on P plate drivers driving at night?
No. However, night time has been shown to be a particularly dangerous time for inexperienced drivers. As a result, it is recommended that P plate drivers limit the amount of driving they do at night and seek other transport options where available, such as taxis, public transport and friends or family.
No time restrictions, straight from the VicRoads site. Also no mention of restrictions applying to specific times during the day.

01-05-08, 12:12 GMT+10#49 Glad theres not going to be any passenger restrictions on P plate drivers. Hope they dont introduce those speed limitations either, but knowing vic roads, they'll just introduce them next june/july if they think 'hoon' behvaiour hasnt stopped.

i was driving on a freeway up to the north coast when i was on my reds, i tried to stick to the 90km/h speed limit in the left hand lane but after getting tailgated by semi's and being nearly run off the road by semi's trying to overtake me i thought f*ck it, its much easier to keep up with the traffic

There WILL be passenger restrictions on P platers that get their license after 01/07/08. No more than one passenger aged between 16-21.

01-05-08, 14:29 GMT+10#58 Ha it's probably still worth it, even get S.A plates on your car, now that would be mad. Cops wouldn't bother
So with these new laws, are they saying that if your on your P's still, you can't in anyway whatsoever modifiy your car to increase performance? How about a air filter? Will they ream me for that saying I added .2rwkw to my car's performance?
The people who came up with these laws and those that inforce them (it's an occupation, its still their ****ing choice) probably couldn't tell their lips from penis.
****ing ****smokers, the lot of them.

01-05-08, 14:29 GMT+10#59 you need to be a resident in a state for at least 6 months before you can and also must transfer your licence
loll and yes also, no mods at all
the car must be perfectly stock...
which is a fucking joke!
its a bt unclear if that covers ALL P platers, or just the new ones though
nice work making our probationary laws so fuckn confusing, misleading and undefined vicroads...
